Mariah Carey officially popped the cork on her upcoming era by performing an 8-song set for Jimmy Kimmel‘s ‘Plot Your Escape’ multi-artist concert event.
The quality of the octave-jumping diva’s voice was exceptionally clear, strong, and agile–a complete 180 degrees from her leathery live performances pre-‘Merry Christmas II You’.

A truly amazing showcase that allowed the 41-year-old’s voice to soar and take center stage. Usually during ‘Shake It Off’ (which is no easy song to sing) Carey is carried by her background singers and backing-track, so it’s an unusually special to hear it performed almost unplugged and with a revamped intro.
Having the pleasure of being in attendance last night we can confirm Carey’s voice was 100% live, proving that she’s still indeed that chick when it comes to vocal prowess.

Watcha talking about grapejuice! This song is super dupa easy to sing because the melody is basically fast talking. It doesn’t require vocal skill. I was fond of Mariah but it’s time for her to give it a rest. Her perfomances are so boring. In addition her background singers carried the song anyway.
Ummm as usual, the end went into a track for the high lead vocals! As a lamb and a person that can HEAR, that was obvious. She sound really good at the beginning though. Her depth and fullness is back!

I didn’t see the same performance then because her voice was mediocre at best. She can longer kill the high notes like before. It was a little boring and safe. Honestly, nothing special. I am glad she is trying to make her comeback tho.

The greatest singer of a ll time died on 02/11/2012, now Mariah has to rep for. I did not particularly like this performance, but the other ones were pretty good. I wouldn’t go as far as saying she sounded like the 90s Mariah, but still better than in recent years.

I love Mariah and she looked good. But I’m gonna be honest, vocally, her performance was not good. She seemed out of breathe most of the time when she was singing, and it seemed like some of her notes were difficult for her to sing, even her riffs weren’t smooth to me. I think she needs to re-do some vocal training, just to get her voice back into tip top shape.
Salem sit your dumb a** down, alot of what she sung was very smooth as was her voice. You are a known Mariah hater. So shut your bogus a** up. You stay in her post. Go find something to do.
