New Song: Dawn Richard – ‘Wild N’ Young’

Published: Friday 18th May 2012 by David

Get familiar with ‘Wild N’ Young’, the latest dance effort by Dawn Richard.

The follow up to the well received ‘Bombs‘, the upbeat cut surfaced online today and is waiting for your cents below.

Get into it.

Despite being a little busy at times, ‘Wild’ is easily Dawn’s strongest release to date- with the Hot 100 in mind.

However, down to the fact that her vocals were overproduced and lacks a ‘everyone can sing along’ kind of hook, it falls short of being a certified smash.

Then again, if accompanied by a video as severe ‘Bombs’, that might just change and mark her highest charting release thus far, since it does have all the trappings of a radio hit- bar the aforementioned ‘lack of a catchy hook’.

Amazing beat! Props to the producer 🙂

    • JoArmy&CarrieUnderwoodArmy May 18, 2012

      agreed

  2. ABC May 18, 2012

This isn’t an official single, its a track that didn’t make her EP…she released it to celebrate her music video for Bombs reaching 300k views on youtube

    • A May 18, 2012

that’s what I was gonna say, this isnt a single to buy on itunes, its just a gift to her fans

      • Seriously? May 18, 2012

        She could have kept it.

  3. Ugh May 18, 2012

Dawn’s not established enough to be releasing risky music like this. She’s talented though.

    • O_O May 18, 2012

Peoples with no idea who they are usually make “SAFE” music to get on radio artists establish their sound and attempt to carve out something of their own.

      I dont like it.

  4. armpitjuice May 18, 2012

her music is always just ok…

    Mess

    • I LOVE ME May 18, 2012

Exactly!! She so hit and miss but I get it. She’s finding herself but this song should never have surfaced.

  7. Kylie May 18, 2012

I hate that she feels the need to use expletives on a track, I don’t get defiance/swag/edge or aggression like on other song without the use, the more she does it the more it sticks out like a saw thumb. Like Sam says, she keep using these heavily over produced tracks and does not seem to register that it take her 3 steps back from the quality of Scriptures, SMFU and black lipstick.

  8. o_O May 18, 2012

Wish she would have realised something of a better quality as a bonus or freebie, just to reignite that buzz from bombs and open a few more eye. This is chaotic. Sadly. This will not.

    • Seriously? May 18, 2012

I need another Epic video from her. Not SMFU with that trashy dance break and not just another Bombs dance routine, I need something with EPIC. Quality like Bombs but with the storyline impact of a “We Found Love” or even one of Melodys snippet videos.

      • millhouse May 18, 2012

melody- really? i dotn think so… I dont need a storyline… great visuals and great choreo always does the trick… RIhanna’s new video deosnt have a story line but its her best to date. Beyonce single ladies didnt have a story line…. Story line bore people. I dont want to see a movie, I want to see a music video…

  9. Kaleah May 18, 2012

The production on this track stinks! It is too over done. And what is up with all the F’s. Who did her so wrong? Too aggressive.

  10. millhouse May 18, 2012

n tone down on the autotune and overlapping vocals when u drop the album…. it makes it hard for artists to sing songs like that live when the vocals are overproduced…

  11. MakeItHappen May 18, 2012

When it is overproduced they call it futuristic? This is a mess. She has a beautiful voice. Why can’t that be enough? We have enough clowns and gimmicks in the industry already.

    • georgia23 May 24, 2012

What’s a gimmick about this? Because it’s complex and has layering? I wouldn’t call this track futuristic, but I would call it more conceptual. The ambiance that most of the tracks she uses (DruSki produced) put you in a place, mentally. The music itself paints a picture and if trying to be intellectual about how you produce and create your music is wrong or a “gimmick” as you say, I don’t want her to be right.

  12. Loyalty May 18, 2012

When people does s*** that’s different, it’s wack, or okay. When Rihanna, Bey, and Nicki make the same ole sounds over and over ad y’all go up for that. Open your minds and ears to all kinds of music not just the songs that’s perched on the Top 10 of Billboard or whats sitting on your faves latest album.

    Kids smh

    • junior May 19, 2012

I totally agree with you. It’s a different sound. It’s refreshing.

    • MakeItHappen May 20, 2012

PEOPLE put certain music on the billboards, because they like it. Those artist make music that people want to hear and dance to. You can’t blame people for liking what they like.

    • MakeItHappen May 24, 2012

Why does everyone assume that everybody actually likes Beyonce and Rihanna? That is always the quick comparison.

  13. Wow May 18, 2012

She did it again. Can we just give Dawn money directly for all the dope music and video she give the $6 for the EP just was not enough money I feel like I am ripping her off

  14. ENOUGH ONIKA May 18, 2012

Thank God it won’t be an official single….

  15. MuzikPro May 18, 2012

I think Dawn still has that Dirty Money sound in her system. All the unreleased tracks from that album that the general public hasn’t heard have this flavor. Very left field but innovative at that time. The problem then & still is the marketing issue in this bubble gum dominated rotation. Most will yawn, but i respect the artistry.

    • MuzikPro May 18, 2012

******didnt mean that to be a reply just my 2cents******

  16. 4orbidden Entertainment May 19, 2012

Well…this is probably the best song I’ve heard from her thus far. This could work for pop radio.

  17. junior May 19, 2012

I’m really feeling this track by Dawn! Her music is so refreshing and different.

  18. credits May 20, 2012

This reminds me of some of brandy’s 2008-2010 unreleased songs. Dawn doesn’t layer her vocals and and harmonize the way brandy does(of course not), cause if she did, this track would have been epic. brandy would have killed this!!

  19. georgia23 May 24, 2012

I’m sorry… Please stop the Brandy comparisons. They are in two different lanes and they’re both AMAZING in their own ways. Just let Dawn be Dawn and Brandy be Brandy. In regards to this song, Dawn is a musicians DREAM. The way she layers vocals and lyrics (and she does do her own Vocal Production) is just amazing and it causes me to have this spasm that I can’t shake (lol). That busy-ness that the author refers to is what a musician likes to call GENIUS!!! It doesn’t do much for regular people who just want to hear good music, but when you’ve been doing music for a long time… Those complexities are what you LIVE for when you listen to a song. Kudos Ms. Richard!!! AND MAAAAAAAJOR shout out to the producer DruSki!
