Justin Timberlake’s ‘Suit & Tie’ Rockets To #1

‘…and like that, a smash hit is born‘.

As if the chart return of his wife Beyonce wasn’t enough to give Jay Z much to celebrate this month, his ‘Suit & Tie’ collaboration with Justin Timberlake has ensured that both he (and his pockets) will be smiling for some time.

For, less than twelve hours after its digital release, the R&B jam has rocketed to #1 in the UK- snatching the top spot away from Will.i.am and Britney Spears‘ ‘Scream & Shout’.

Chart check below…

Storming the charts despite stiff competition from Taylor Swift‘s ‘Trouble’ and Marky Mark tribute act ‘Beauty & A Beat’ singer Justin Bieber, ‘Tie’ kicks its feet up at #1 while holding tight at #2 in the US, just one spot away from claiming the digital crown there too.

The first single to be pulled from his third studio album, The 20/20 Perspective‘, ‘Suit’ also enjoys the #5 spot in France, a #6 position in Australia and more #1 spots in Denmark and Sweden, set to sustain these positions once its supporting video touches down to generate more momentum for his return.

Still haven’t bought it? Do yourself a favor here.

Update: ‘Suit & Tie‘ now holds the #1 spot on iTunes USA.

‘It’s Like That’ was a horrble first single for EOM.. Hence why it didnt even crack the top 10. It was ‘We Belong Together’ and later singles that made it the comeback it was. Hell, if you wanna talk about a comeback, lets go to Whitney’s I Look To You, which debuted at #1 with 300k+ in its first week with not even a top 40 single, her biggest first week sales of her career. THATS a f****** comeback. So dont write off JT or anybody else based off of one single when there are 20 more songs to be judged.

And for the record, Nuclear is not a single nor a newly recorded song. Nothing more than an unreleased rejected track that is now being released. So have a seat with the shade and comparisons.

      • TEENBRANDYFAN January 14, 2013

But when Michele said on Twitter that they recorded “Nuclear” a few weeks ago….. its not an unreleased song it is definately new.

  6. Ish January 14, 2013

Monstarebel are you really comparing Tamar to Justin Timberlake?!?! That argument alone makes you delusional and I love Tamar. Everyone was confused when he came back with “sexyback” and we know how that story ended. You have to really hate music to not like this song. I will agree with you that “nuclear” was not the business, but you cannot say the same thing about “suit and tie”. You may not be a fan of the style, which is understandable, but the song is NOTHING like anything on radio now and its truly a breath of fresh air.

    • Monstarebel (F** Boy) January 14, 2013

I’m just saying Tamar song hit number 1 on iTunes but yet didn’t do s*** on the billboard hot 100 his song is only number 1 based off his name…i doubt it will even reach the top 20 on the hot 100… I love Justin and as a fan I’m disappointed…how can you say I hate music because I don’t like this song when majority of the people on this site dislikes this song…the song is not a good comeback single!

    • Dale January 14, 2013

Why do people try to force you to have their opinion? The song may sound like nothing on the radio but it still sucks. You may think its a breath of fresh air but i think its bad breath. Sorry

real r&b????? from this white popstar…y’all pathetic as F*** only time r&b / soul music slays is when whites Do it aka Justin & Adele….. yet your black artists like brandy Keyshia & usher continue to struggle with their real r&b music

      • speechless January 14, 2013

And its #1 and you will continue to deal with it. If Trey did it youd complain, if Usher did it then it’d flop, if Chris did it it would SURELY flop. Mad cuz it took Justin to make it work? And you do know this was produced by Timbaland. Thumbs me down all u want, he’s winning and you’re not. Bye b****.

  17. Stewie January 14, 2013

    WOW so many negative comments!
Personally think the song is pretty damn good, don’t get me wrong not JT’s best work ever, but I think it’s a solid first track that is a grower-took me a few listens. I’m glad JT stood true to his sound and didn’t conform to the generic Euro-dance pop convention infecting all the charts these days.
Can’t wait to hear the rest of the album

    • An0thrDream January 14, 2013

Rihanna fans hate on EVERYBODY’s favs because they feel threatened. they know rihanna is basic and only has numbers – when it comes to talent and star power it’s obvious King Justin Queen Bey and Mother Monster (lady gaga) show how basic she really is

      • CzarM January 15, 2013

True. Rihanna is the product of savvy marketing, that’s all. She interchangeable with any “hitmaker” of the moment and her star power is limited. There’s no difference between her and Katy Perry, or her and Kesha, or her and Bruno Mars, or her and whoever some sought after songwriter/producer is paid millions to hone. The type of success she has is dependent largely on the machine backing her. Let the key people at Def Jam who have long guided her career vacate the label, and have her have to deal with incoming executives who don’t “get” her or how to manipulate her success the same way, and she’d be toast.

        Really, #15…..

    • CHUDDS January 14, 2013

I really doubt that Usher is crying. He’s going through a confusing rough patch, but he has still sold waaaaaaay more than JT (solo).

    • grrreatt1 January 14, 2013

lmao, Usher will always be more successful than Justin, Justin couldn’t even get a diamond selling album. Confessions sold 10 million in just the U.S, the same amount Future Love S** sounds sold globally.

      • CHUDDS January 14, 2013

Yup Usher has a career spanning damn near 20 years, sold over 25 million records in America, and over 65 million WW. He aint crying for s***.

  22. Bryan Dossome January 14, 2013

JT is smart not to release the best song as the lead single off the album…You remember IT’S LIKE THAT ended up probably the worst song off TEOM,right alongside SAY SOMETHING yet was the lead single…personally,i thought Summerlove, lovestoned,my love and losing my way were far better than sexyback and probably were reasons that album grew legs and sold over time,so i think jt is onto a successful era

  23. Layla January 14, 2013

If a black artist sung this song,it would not be as successful.

Lets be real, you’re just mad that he didn’t give you EDM or some peppy poppy Maroon 5 soundalike. The rest of you may have forgotten who JT was, but he didn’t.

That must be a joke …. from all these singers, Alicia Keys had the best come back single with Girl on Fire !!!

The album title is not appealing in my opinion. Mariah needs to teach these little kids how to make a PROPER comeback.
I still like JT though… It’s about time that Justin Bieber stepped the f*** back!

    • FireIce January 14, 2013

“Mariah needs to teach these little kids how to make a PROPER comeback.”

?!?!?!?!?! Is this the same Mariah who is desperate need of a “PROPER” (whatever that’s supposed to mean) comeback herself? She tried about 6 months ago and, well…

If she has any knowledge on the matter, she needs to apply it to herself but from the looks of it when it comes to career resurgence, Mariah is hardly in any position to be offering that kind of advice to anyone else.

    • DTG January 14, 2013

Delusional. #ICANT at Mariah fans still clinging to the 10 year old myth that she’s some sort of comeback queen, considering all the commercial failures and disappointments she’s had since. If anything JT needs to be offering her some help, because S&T is doing what Triumphant wanted to but couldn’t.

  39. DTG January 14, 2013

    Real talk –
I don’t give a f*** how good, bad or in between the song is. What matters most is that it’s not pop, techno or some bubblegummy female singer. For that reason alone, I support this song becoming a big hit because then maybe it’ll open the floodgates for more music to dominate that isn’t pop, techno or bubblegum female.

I hope JT releases a ballad as a single sometime this year, because big ballads need to come back too.

  40. CHUDDS January 14, 2013

I like the song. It has a very grown and s*** feel to it. I like, I like. It’s not the comeback BANGER that I expected, but it’s a nice record nonetheless….

  43. mobwife:The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander January 14, 2013

This song is complete bullsh**! Wow, this is #1? He’s fans must have just been thirsty for new JT after all these years. I like some of his past songs but these right her is total garbage being sold by name recognition of two “media darlings”!

**He sounds a bit too much like Robin Thicke on this song.

    • Biting Truth January 14, 2013

      Oh hell to the yes.

I laugh at those saying he sold on “name recognition.” Do you know how many have tried that and failed? Former classmate Nelly Furtado was his female equivalent in the mid 00s, had hit after after then took an equally long hiatus and tried to come back using her name and bombed.

Do you realize how hard it is to sell on “name recognition” in the digital age, when people can listen/bookmark/illegally download? Especially if people aren’t actually impressed by the final product. LOL its just SO hard for some to reconcile that perhaps a lot of people actually LIKE this song and THAT’S why its selling through the roof.

In addition to the sales, the song is also being critically praised and radio is eagerly adding it to their playlist.

Try and downplay and spin it all you want. Whether or not the song is any good is 100% conjecture. The fact that it’s exploding is not!

Are you mad that this isn’t Chris? I wonder.

      • CHUDDS January 14, 2013

Technically, Justin never really went on hiatus. He was in many films, and never really left the public eye. He hasn’t released any music in 7 years, but he was stillaround. Nelly Furtado dropped off the face of the Earth for 6 years and thought she could come back. Her fan base pretty much alienated her ass lol.

I like S&T, but Justin is definitely selling off of his name right now. Plus he’s on a full-out media blitz. Nelly just dropped a bunch of lackluster singles with no promo.

      • Jer January 15, 2013

Looks like the idiots at TGJ strike out on their predictions again.

This is my take on the song, it’s a nice but not a good crossover song. This is for the smaller markets in r&b; artists like fantasia, Miguel, melonie fiona, estelle, robin thicke. JT is now competing against chris brown & rhianna of the music world. And the type of music that’s out right now is that twerking music which is a mixture of urban, fusion, hip hop and r&b. For example rhianna’s cake top the charts w/o a music video. Look at artists like future, 2chainz, juicy j, french montana, etc doing their thing. That’s what’s hot right. Ciara finally got it right with this new single with future produce by mike will and if ciara drop a video for wake up, turn it up, riri do it for pour it up and tamar braxton drop a video for hot sugar those girls will kill it especially with the twerking dance moves bcuz that’s what’s popping right now. So I do give JT a B- for trying. Like I said if cici, riri & tamar drop a viddy for their twerking music it would be fire and top the charts.

Do you even know who you’re talking about? None of what you said is applicable to Justin or will hinder his appeal in any way. Justin is bigger, more famous, and more sought after than everyone you named. So for you to suggest that he wouldn’t, or couldn’t, compete with this – or any – song is you being wholly naive to the reality of his name and fame. Last time I checked, his song was atop of iTunes worldwide and was being heavily added to radio station playlists everywhere. The song has already “crossed over.” Who is he playing second fiddle to in that regard? Chris? Rihanna? Ciara? “Twerking music?” LMAO! Seriously? F*** outta here, junior miss.

When this song was premiered yesterday, the question may have initially been: “will he do well with it?” A day later, the answer is a resounding yes.

Timbersnake has a Huge radio deal, and is expecting to sell at least 400k.

This mess is awful, and once radio takes it off if heavy rotation, I highly doubt it will be a massive hit in the US.

A major radio deal, premium package, iTunes banner, etc, JT and his team need all of that just to try to get the song to smash.

It will drop off the charts soon.

Someone sounds bitter. 😛 Are you mad that Justin never went bonkers and hasn’t had to resort to sitting at the judges table on a reality TV show? (A reality TV show that didn’t see a significant ratings bump at the addition to said judge, leaving producers wanting to unload her.)

I’d also bet money on 20/20 Experience selling more than Femme Fatale. LOL

        Jealously causes age lines.
        Might wanna check that.

I predict he’ll debut at #2 just behind Bruno. If he gets more than 50 million airplay impressions he could debut at #1. The airplay component is so large Bruno has a huge advantage no matter what Justin’s airplay is

Didn’t listen and won’t be listenening! Will never support anything Jay Z affiliated!

No one needs you to be a success. The song became a hit w/o your support. How does that make you feel?

  49. TAYLOR SWIFTS NUMBER 1 FAN!!! January 15, 2013

Justin Timberlake only premiered his latest single ‘Suit & Tie’ on Sunday, but it has already stormed its way up the iTunes charts debuting at number two.

However, it appears the ‘Cry Me A River’ singer has stiff competition from Taylor Swift, who is currently at the top with ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’, topping both the UK and US charts.
