With empires that reach far beyond the rhymes that took them to the top, there’s no doubt that Hip Hop’s wealthiest staples stand as examples of how success can be reached and attained if managed neatly.
So, in celebrating these role models, Forbes have released their Top 5 list of the culture’s wealthiest contributors- tallied by counting disclosed capital earned by each of them in the last year.
As the headline revealed, Diddy came out on top. However, you may be surprised to find out who else did (and didn’t) make this year’s cut, when you click below!
The Forbes Five for 2013
1. Diddy – $580 million
2. Jay-Z – $475 million
3. Dr. Dre – $350 million
4. Birdman – $150 million
5. 50 Cent – $125 million
Helped in part by sales of his own material, the hand in plays in Rihanna’s career and his $150 million deal with ‘Live Nation‘, Jay Z comes in at #2 with $475 million. This, enabling him to beat ‘Beats By Dre‘ mastermind Dr. Dre who pulled in a sweet $350 million, $80 million up form last year.
In at #4 is Cash Money King Birdman with $150 million, no doubt amassed helped by album sales generated by artists Lil Wayne, Drake and Nicki Minaj. The latter, whose debut album ‘Pink Friday’ also went some way to help Diddy reach #1 thanks his former business dealings with the entertainer.
Finally, ‘Baby By Me‘ MC 50 Cent sits comfortably at #5. Good news, considering recent years have seen him struggle to live up to the commercial heights set by earlier releases. However, with his brand riding high on the wave that is ‘My Life’, there’s no doubt that’ll change upon the release of its supporting album in the coming months.
