Petition Urges Record Labels To ‘Stop The Degradation Of Black People’

Though the last twenty years has seen many acts of African descent rise to levels once deemed impossible, there are some who believe the representation and handling of Black artists has been anything but favourable of late.

For, according to the creators of a new ‘Change.Org petition launched this month, the game-changing rises of Beyonce, Rihanna, Usher and Alicia Keys see them join a minority of ‘ethnic’ artists whose material hasn’t been used to dirty and downgrade the efforts of their forefathers…at least for the most part.

Now find out why said petitioners have called on record labels to put an end to the alleged efforts they go to to have their black artists disrespect black culture, below…

The petition reads:

“This petition is for our future children and grandchildren. This petition is for our ancestors that sacrificed and died to make things better for us.

We have to let our ancestors know that we will not allow our legacy to be destroyed by corporate America, and we will not allow our legacy to be destroyed by a few greedy music artist that value money more than they value their own people.

When you see bad things happening and don’t say anything it will continue forever. Bad things will only stop when good people take a stand against it.

Record companies the rappers are your EMPLOYEES and you would never allow your EMPLOYEES to make songs that disrespect or degrade the Jewish people, and you would never allow your employees to make songs that disrespect Gays, but you allow your employees to make songs that disrespect and degrade black people.

Record companies you make a profit by allowing rappers to call black people n!gger and n!gga in their songs. Record companies you would never allow rappers to make songs that glorify the killing of Jews or Gays, but you allow rappers to make songs that glorify the killing of blacks, and you profit from it.

The negative rappers value money and material things more than they value the betterment of their own people, they don’t even care about the damage that their music is doing to us as a people. We would never allow whites or any other groups to make songs against us, and we shouldn’t allow blacks to do it either.

People will only do what you allow them to do, and as black people we are at fault to a large degree because for the last 20 years we have allowed record companies and rappers to degrade us as a people and get a way with it.

Just like other groups of people would never allowed themselves to be disrespected it’s time for black people to show the world that we love ourselves as well.

We must send a clear message to those that have exploited us and harmed us as a people. The best way is through legal action or class action lawsuit against any record company, record distributor or music artist that continues to put out those kind of songs.

Stevie Wonder has sold over 100 million records and he never called us n!ggers in his songs. He always called us brothers and sisters in his songs.

Black people we gave the world great music, we gave the world Soul music, Jazz and other forms of music. I refused to stand by and watch our great music legacy be trashed and destroyed before the whole world.

99% of rappers are signed to these record companies and distributors below, this petition is against these companies and their rap artist. These are the names of the executives that run these record companies that degrade blacks.

Universal Music Group CEO Lucian Charles Grainge

Sony Music Entertainment CEO Doug Morris

Warner Music Group CEO Stephen F Cooper

Island Def Jam CEO Barry Weiss

Island Def Jam President Steve Bartels

Interscope Geffen A&M Records President John Janick

RCA Records CEO Peter Edge

Virgin EMI Records President Ted Cockle

Atlantic Records CEO Craig Kallman

Young Money President, Dwayne Michael Carter Jr

Cash Money Records CEO’S,  Bryan and Ronald Williams

Capitol Music Group CEO Steve Barnett

The FCC is going to be asked to play a major role in this.

Federal Communication Commission (FCC) president, Tom Wheeler

Tell everyone that you know to sign this petition.”

      • applause March 26, 2014

Beyonce doesn’t even respect her marriage if she did she’d keep her and her husband’s s** life on a low not make money off it. Gaga doesn’t rely on s** like Beyonce she relys on talent and ART

      • the undisputed truth March 26, 2014

Beyonce is happily married. She has a child that is obviously well cared for, and JayZ and Beyonce aren’t in the press with break-up rumors, driving drunk, domestic violence, or any other nonsense. Beyonce isn’t the first nor last to sing about s**. It’s a part of life, it’s a part of a relationship and she has the right to sing about whatever she chooses.
Gaga was on stage at the VMA’s in a thong, exposing her ass cheeks, part of her v*****, and just about all of her breast exposed. The double standards are real!

    • Ajanni March 26, 2014

@Applause–Ma’am/Sir just because somebody says something does not make it true. The petition should have been to get gullible black folks who will believe anything off of social media. These are the people who will believe what a majority of fools on blogs have to say no matter how ludicrous it sounds. Examples: This person worships the Illuminati, this woman faked her pregnancy, this man has a secret child, this man is gay, etc. All from manufactured lies and fake Photoshop. Instead we want to be crabs ‘n a barrel trying to pull those who are more successful than us down instead of getting off our ass and social media to achieve a better life for ourselves. Why even make a Change.Org when you can’t even change your own damn behavior?

  2. applause March 26, 2014

Same goes for Rihanna they are nothing but trashy people destroying the youth Gaga and even Katy don’t have to stoop to lows like that these woman are always talking about getting f***** and drinking s****.

    • The truth honey March 26, 2014

      • Rosie March 26, 2014

Since when was getting puked on on stage for no apparent reason “art?” The delusion is real with these Fadga stans.

      • the undisputed truth March 26, 2014

Well everytime I get drunk. I create art in my toilet. BYE Gaga is a try-hard gimmick

      • Dark horse March 26, 2014

wasn’t lana a stripper in tripicio? no class either

      • Rosie March 26, 2014

Death at you comparing a role in a short film to a real life concert. While we’re at it, let’s discuss your fave having whipped cream and fireworks spraying out of her tits in her two most popular videos.

  3. UnthinkableKeys March 26, 2014

Beyonce is today’s biggest “black” singer but she looks closer to a white woman than the average black one. Sad.

    • applause March 26, 2014

Alicia is a better role model then Beyonce and Rihanna people truly respect Alicia as a talent why people see Beyonce Rihanna and Nicki as s** objects in music

      • HausMuthaAdele March 26, 2014

True story. Alicia may be shady when it comes to Mashonda but she is respected for her art.

      • RICHIE_RICH March 26, 2014

How is Alicia a better role model? I mean she was dealing wih an married man!!!!!!!!!! You people kill me with y’all B.S(only cause you hate Beyonce’)

        SAD

      • applause March 26, 2014

Alicia doesn’t go on stage popping her v***** like Beyonce Alicia has a child and respects herself as a mother unlike Beyonce.

      • the undisputed truth March 26, 2014

Yeah Alicia’s just a glorified home wrecker! LOL Beyonce is a perfromer. She was one before she had a child and she has the right to continue that. It in no way takes away from her being an incredible mother. Who keeps her child away from the media in every possible way.

    • Jennifer. March 26, 2014

Lol, how is it Beyonce’s fault if she is naturally lightskin? Idgi.

      • TeenageDreamer March 26, 2014

Beyonce goes out of her way to look European unless you’re coming to tell me she’s a natural blonde.

      • the undisputed truth March 26, 2014

Beyonce isn’t the only black woman to wear blonde hair though. It’s more of a style preference than her wanting to “look” european.

    • the undisputed truth March 26, 2014

The ignorance is so real. When has Beyonce ever been dark skin? African Americans come in all shades. That’s what’s so beautiful about us.

      • RICHIE_RICH March 26, 2014

Tell me about it. The only reason they’re saying it, is because they hate Beyonce’

  4. The truth honey March 26, 2014

  6. TRUTH March 26, 2014

LMAO These black artists degrade THEMSELVES. Today’s two biggest artists, Rhianna and Beyonce sing filthy songs about drugs and s** and act like stripper whorress. The rappers talk about bitchez, hoz, niggazz, drugs and guns. Nobody MADE them act like that or sing/rap those songs. That was/is their CHOICE. Black people idolize this HOOD life and that’s what hold black people back.

    • applause March 26, 2014

Yes go off blacks are so brainwashed and don’t know it

      • HausMuthaAdele March 26, 2014

You are so right but that doesn’t give other people the right to take advantage of our self hatred.

  7. lovebird March 26, 2014

First of all, Gangsta rap died ages ago, I don’t know any rapper who raps about his crew and how he’ll kill you and is still selling albums, please name one. Rappers have moved on from gangsta rap to bling rap where they rap about their possessions.

Rap is about Bravado, it is a male dominated and consumed genre which is why such topics are covered, because by rapping about b******, money, hos, and a click; a rapper is asserting themselves as the alpha male.

Secondly, didn’t Kanye West already cover this and you refused to buy his album?

“You see there’s broke n**** racism, that’s that don’t touch anything in the store

And there’s rich n**** racism that’s that come in, please buy more.

What you want a Bentley fur coat a diamond chain, ALL YOU BLACKS WANT ALL THE SAME THING”

Essentially Kanye was saying empower yourselves. Black people will b**** about Chanel not featuring black models but will skip out on rent to buy the latest Chanel bag so they can impress their friends. Instead what they should do is stop supporting the brand and maybe the company will feature more black models to appeal to you.

It’s like the RnB music argument, you b**** about how badly it’s doing but are the first to type 2,000 words per minute in Google looking for a Zippy share link.

Same thing with this petition, you find the music offensive, STOP BUYING IT.

No one can make you buy something you don’t want.

    • Draggin4MrsCarter March 26, 2014

      Good points sister.

    • RICHIE_RICH March 26, 2014

  8. Not Talking About Black Women March 26, 2014

Why do they insist the black artists are talking about black women? Black women are not in the videos. 50cent just dropped two videos and black women are not the leading ladies. I refuse to accept just because they are black artists that they are talking about black women. THEY’RE TALKING ABOUT THE WOMEN IN THE VIDEOS. Please name a song where the black artists are saying “black h** or black b****.”

  9. TRUTH March 26, 2014

Beyonce looks white? Yall are stupid. “Black” people come in many shades.

    • JanetXone March 26, 2014

You know they weren’t talking about her complexion but the things SHE does to herself to make herself look European.

      • the undisputed truth March 26, 2014

Is Mary J. Blige trying to be white by wearing blond? Is wendy williams, Rihanna, Tyra,Keyshia Cole or any other black female artist?
Beyonce’s ancestry is creole. She is naturally light skin. You people are so biased and ignorant!

  10. Cake Like Gaga March 26, 2014

Who cares…it is all about demand and supply. Music is a business not non-profit organizations. S** sells…

  11. ROSIE March 26, 2014

PLEASE ASK BEYONCE TO STOP PERFORMING LIKE A S***.

  12. Tutesy March 26, 2014

I am a dark skinned black woman, but it appalls me when i see people accuse Beyonce of looking like a white woman . It makes me think such people are self hating blacks who wish they were white and will project their hate on fairer black women. n. Beyonce is naturally light skinned, duh. All her baby pics are on the internet as proof. Theres a baby pic of her, where you would almost think she was biracial. She looks darker sometimes because she tans. She said it in several interviews, even her stylist confirmed it. Even those of us with darker skin, our skin tones change all the time depending on the season. We may get a little lighter in the winter and darker in the summer, even without a tan. This is a good petition btw

  13. lovebird March 26, 2014

Kanye said it best, “I’d rather be a d*** than a swallower”.

Don’t be like Stephy who b****** about a stink d*** but continues to suck and swallow. No logic.

    • Molly March 26, 2014

Yes at that Stephy shade. lol

        THIEVINGONCE married a drug dealer

      • the undisputed truth March 26, 2014

Beyonce married an EX drug dealer who is now a multi-millionaire mogul!
What she chooses to do with her HUSBAND is just that. Atleast it’s her husband and not the next hot rapper in the industry.
Is Beyonce posting instagram pics of blunts????

  15. Tutesy March 26, 2014

How has this turned into a Beyonce and Rihanna bashing post when the petition, actually praises both of them , along with Usher, as
some of the few artists that have not degraded black culture. Smh.

  16. Mimi Carey March 26, 2014

What has Beyonce and Rihanna ever done for black culture besides degrade themselves? Nothing wrong with being s*** but being vulgar is a problem.

  17. TRUTH March 26, 2014

Bill Cosby said… They’re standing on the corner and they can’t speak English. I can’t even talk the way these people talk: Why you ain’t, Where you is, What he drive, Where he stay, Where he work, Who you be… And I blamed the kid until I heard the mother talk. And then I heard the father talk.

Everybody knows it’s important to speak English except these knuckleheads. You can’t be a doctor with that kind of crap coming out of your mouth. In fact you will never get any kind of job making a decent living.

People marched and were hit in the face with rocks to get an education, and now we’ve got these knuckleheads walking around. The lower economic people are not holding up their end in this deal. These people are not parenting. They are buying things for kids. $500 sneakers for what? And they won’t spend $200 for Hooked on Phonics.

I am talking about these people who cry when their son is standing there in an orange suit. Where were you when he was 2? Where were you when he was 12? Where were you when he was 18 and how come you didn’t know that he had a pistol? And where is the father? Or who is his father?

People putting their clothes on backward: Isn’t that a sign of something gone wrong? People with their hats on backward, pants down around the crack, isn’t that a sign of something? Or are you waiting for Jesus to pull his pants up? Isn’t it a sign of something when she has her dress all the way up and got all type of needles [piercing] going through her body?

What part of Africa did this come from? We are not Africans. Those people are not Africans; they don’t know a thing about Africa. With names like Shaniqua, Taliqua and Mohammed and all of that crap, and all of them are in jail.

Brown or black versus the Board of Education is no longer the white person’s problem. We have got to take the neighborhood back. People used to be ashamed. Today a woman has eight children with eight different ‘husbands’ — or men or whatever you call them now. We have millionaire football players who cannot read. We have million-dollar basketball players who can’t write two paragraphs. We as black folks have to do a better job. Someone working at Wal-Mart with seven kids, you are hurting us. We have to start holding each other to a higher standard.

We cannot blame the white people any longer.

  18. Yawn March 26, 2014

    Wasting time.

It won’t change a god damn thing. Many record executives and moguls are gangsters and pimps anyways. Glorifying cultures of s**, drug, violence are their lifestyles.

As long as Mariah, Rihanna, Beyonce, Nicki Minaj or Lil’ Kim exist and out there to sell their bodies these problems won’t stop. They are out there to make money…..they don’t care.

The root of the problem is…too much freedom of speech and freedom of expression.

    • Mimi Carey March 26, 2014

Mariah doesn’t rely on s** like Beyonce and Rihanna unlike them her discography isn’t 60% stripper anthems.

      • RICHIE_RICH March 26, 2014

Ummm Mariah does too….Keep it 10000000

  19. Mimi Carey March 26, 2014

People like Beyonce give people like Kim K hope that they are nothing but sexual objects there talent doesn’t matter we just wanna see you naked.

    • the undisputed truth March 26, 2014

Beyonce is famous and respected for hard work and talent!

Kim K only gives hope to non-talented s**** and gold diggers with no talent and gives them aspirations that all they have to do is degrade themselves by releasing a s** tape for undeserved fame! Kim K is not in Beyonce’s league!

  20. Rosie March 26, 2014

This is already turning into a normal “bitter f*** using lame shade against Beyoncé” post, let me not waste my time, especially since a good amount of them stan for the biggest s*** in the industry.

  21. Skyfall March 26, 2014

lol I bet it was “White” people who started this petition lol. I agree with Lovebird if you don’t like it don’t listen or but….. Apparently common sense isn’t so common.

    • Rosie March 26, 2014

LMAO. This does sound like something a Lena Durham stan/white feminist would do.

  22. Skyfall March 26, 2014

The record executives are probably screaming at this petition, they don’t give a f*** what they artist sing about or rap about, hell THEY are the artist. All they care about us making a profit $$$$!!!

  23. RICHIE_RICH March 26, 2014

People don’t read(anything to bash Beyonce’ and Rihanna (yes I said Rihanna))…….Eat y’all heart outs

  24. Beyonce Pays For Grammy s March 26, 2014

Beyonce is the #1 agent of degradation among sistas and brothas.

The mother of all gold diggers who is married with a baboon to advance her lame career. Look at her, she looks like a stray female dog in heat and yet shouting “who runs the world?”. Meh.

Embarrassing to even be her fans, listen to her music or buy her tickets. Isn’t it ironic?

    • the undisputed truth March 26, 2014

Beyonce advanced her oen career with her determination and talent! Her access can not be accredited to Jay-Z. Especially when there are whores like Rihanna in the industry. Whom also endorses drugs!!

  25. Skyfall March 26, 2014

If anyone is degrading the white culture it’s these try hard ass white pop stars who try to imitate the lifestyle of rappers and thugs and act a fool and people think that’s black culture lol. Just like when Miley started trying to shake her back and call it twerking and all these white suburban b****** think that it’s brand new

  26. Molly March 26, 2014

I see what people are saying us blacks gotta do better.

  27. Molly March 26, 2014

    @Skyfall i love u

  28. JohnVidal March 26, 2014

Mariah, Janet, Jlo, Beyonce, Rihanna and now Nicki Minaj all using s** to sell records. They even married with a pimp. Like Mariah, she used to sell her p**** to sleazy Tommy Mottola now her ex-husband. Get real, people. These women are the modern day prostitutes and h***.

Disgusting and pathetic. Sad but true. Euwwww !!! 🙁

  34. Kunty Perry March 26, 2014

    I agree.

Beyawnce`, Fanstasia Boringno and Mooriah Scarey….these 2 are the most vile, crappy and hoochie compared to younger and beautiful yet smart women like Alicia Keys, Rihanna, Brandy, Kelly Rowland, Whitney, Oprah, Halle Berry, Jennifer Hudson and etc. And these 2 don’t mind to be degraded to the lowest point because they used to auction their “vijayjay”s at the local supermarkets and highways when they were young.

    So whats the problem now?

    • lol March 26, 2014

Rihanna is a hoochie though. She’s the most vile of all and selling s** is her claim to fame lmaooooooooo

  35. Boo March 26, 2014

Gaga duet with R Kelly. Degradation at its best.

Epic fail but she loves it. Takes 2 to tango.

    😆

  36. RoyalKev March 26, 2014

I love how this is becoming about Beyonce! It never cease to amaze me. I guess we won’t pay any mind to the fact that a fair share of Bey’s music have empowered women. Single Ladies encouraged women to demand that their partners commit to them. RTW is an anthem that basically declares that women are the driving force in this world.

    If I Were a Boy = equality.
Independent Women = Celebrates Strong Women

Why do you think half these women in the industry are carrying on like their feminists now?

Anyway, this petition is long over due. Black artists have always been encouraged to degrade their own people. At the same time, we have to hold ourselves accountable. If you don’t want random people using the “N” word, then we as a people, have to stop glorifying it! I honestly have enjoyed some music that contain these kind of lyrics, but I can separate art from reality. The problem is that our people limit themselves and only express ourselves in this degrading fashion. There’s not much balance and so many black artist don’t take control of their artistry (perhaps to some degree their not allowed to).

I’m all for versatility! I think we need more uplifting music. We need our artists to stop being so one dimensional and do something that inspire their fans on occasion.

  37. Kiiiiiii March 26, 2014

Ok, Beyonce, Mariah and Rihanna’s fans lets blame…..RuPaul !!!

    😆

  38. Sigh March 26, 2014

Will sign as soon as Beyonce promise to stop those stripper acts and covers herself like a Taliban lady from Afghanistan.

  39. Yawnnze` March 26, 2014

I blame my ex supermodel mommy….Kimora Lee !!!

  40. Dezi March 26, 2014

When it’s black artists it’s called trash – when it’s white artists it’s called art. Double-standards and hypocrisy.

  41. Dark horse March 26, 2014

I will sign a petition that urges Beyonce and Rihanna to put some clothes on.

  42. Dark horse March 26, 2014

When i see Rihanna and Beyonce fans fight its like watching A stripper and prostitute fight

  43. Dezi March 26, 2014

RoyalKev- Honey people will continue to use the N Word REGARDLESS if blacks use it or not. And not all blacks glorify that word.

    • lol March 26, 2014

Majority of blacks use that word as an term of endearment. It is used to address men, it is heavily used in dialogue and music amongst young african americans. Which I don’t understand. You don’t see whites calling themselves crackers, or hispanics calling themselves wetbacks etc. Black people give off the notion that it’s okay to use that term. You have all of these young white kids and other races using that word, and thinking it’s okay because our people use it. WE must first stop using the N word in order for it’s usage amongst others to stop

      • Coral March 26, 2014

Just like gays call each other “f**” and women call each other “b****”. It’s off limits to everyone else!

    • royalkev March 26, 2014

      @Dezi
I didn’t generalize and say that “all” Black people use the N word. Some individuals understand the implication behind it’s origin and they refuse to be a part of something that ignites more self-hatred in the black community. People that are non-black, by all means, can choose to address each other as ignorant if they’d like. We (Blacks) just can’t complain if we’re setting the example for them to refer to us this way.

There’s a bigger picture here and what we condone sets the pace. I understand certain language is sometimes used in music to make a statement or capture a certain feeling, but truthfully speaking, accepting these titles aren’t doing our people any favors (nor are we respecting our ancestors struggle).

  47. S****** Blonde March 26, 2014

I don’t think record labels has anything to do with that, black people are the ones who seems to be ashamed of their own race, they were the creators of such derogatory names as n**** and also the first to use it.

    • JOHNVIDAL March 26, 2014

      You are crazy.

  55. JOHNVIDAL March 26, 2014

Racism, just like Homophobia seems to be getting smaller and smaller as decades go by. But it´s true that in music industry black people dominated more 20 and 30 years ago than now. Michael and Whitney alone… like the biggest of the biggest. While yes you have Beyonce and Rihanna (well I don´t even know if she is black or not cos I often see many discussions here about it) but they are exceptions and they are never the biggest things at the moment.
I just wish some talentless white artists weren´t forced down our throats after ridiculously imitating what they think is some black music (Milye for example). That´s trash.

  56. Stephy Tha Lambily March 26, 2014

HUH!!! Molly, I still love Mariah but Madonna is giving me life right now!

FINE! I will NEVER comment towards you! Bye Babes! Sorry For Not Being On Your FAKE asss level!

  66. Naomi March 26, 2014

What about Miley degrading both black and white culture. So quick to point the finger at the wrong scapecoat I can’t. And yall forget about the positive things Beyonce does and represents for black culture. You never see her coming out of clubs drunk, she never promotes drugs, she has a successful career, a business is married then had a baby with the man she been with for 10 years. I mean this is the problem, black peolle shouldn’t be tearing people like her down. Thats more of a problem with black culture than making s*** songs. The sad thing is, I bet it was white people who started this.

  67. Navy Commander(R8) March 26, 2014

Bey and rih are nothing compared to the famous rappers of today. They are damaging black culture the most

  68. Jhene Aiko Stan March 26, 2014

What rappers still rap about killing people? Its 2014, not 1996. This petition is a little out of date. I get what they are trying to do but they are executing it wrong. There is nothing wrong with being incorporating s** in your music. Everyone has s**, everyone can relate to it, which is what music does. Not all music is for everyone. Black kids can go listen to Zendaya and support her if they’re looking for role models. Artists shouldn’t serve as role models period. Their music is an expression of them. If they smoke weed, like s** or other things that “degrade a culture” so be it. That’s their choice. The ultimate problem is that the listeners support it and buy it. Rappers wouldn’t talk about twerking if the public decided that it was stupid. The artist will always express themselves and label execs will push what is hot and what makes them money. Only when the public stops supporting it will there be change. Why attack label execs for doing their jobs? Why attack the artists for expressing themselves? Attack the listeners for making it apart of our culture and supporting it for years.

    • Navy Commander(R8) March 26, 2014

Preachhhhhh. This pretty much sums it up. End of discussion on to next topic

  69. Touché March 26, 2014

See this probably would have been alright 14 years ago. While I agree with most of the message, it is not very adequate and is addressing the wrong people. The elite is not ever going to change their stance on how they treat and portray our ethnic group. Also these desperate and mediocre artists are sellouts so they are not going to change their way unless it is convenient for them. What these petitioners need to do is only address the black masses and tell them to NOT economically support these artists or their teams until they change their ways( whether that means to make quality music or create a new label). Remember, money is an incentive and like all incentives it can make people do things. If these artists and their teams lost large amounts of money periodically, they would have to change their ways to suit what the masses want.

  70. BEYAWNCE March 27, 2014

Cant put all blame to label tbh, Black artists nowadays degrading their own music tho. Look at YAWNCE, she’s a garbage and only care for $$$$$$$$

  71. laeth March 27, 2014

sorry but creole is not a ethnicity, (it is a dialect speaking in west indies) and what u called “creole” can be people who have lupita’s complexion!

  72. Musicstan (Child Cut) March 27, 2014

I’m going to say this all ethnic groups do it in their music… People just tend to Rap and R&B cause they do it the most, let’s take a trip back to the 90’s when heavy metal and grudge rock was popular acts like Marilyn Mansion and Nirvana (which is my fave) talk about s******, r*** and even have outrageous things going on while on tour… The school shoting incident in 98 was influenced by rock music so if u going to point fingers point it at everyone
