Indie Rock band ‘Warpaint‘ have taken aim at R&B force Beyonce this month, labelling her a ‘****’ after the release of her sexually-charged self-titled new album.
Their scathing criticism of the proud mother below…
An excerpt from the ladies’ recent interview with ‘Q‘ reads:
Speaking as they toured the US, the West Coast four-piece consider the ‘hyper-sexualisation’ of mainstream music and the way some female singers have chosen to portray themselves.
“She [Rihanna] has an insane voice, she could’ve done something so much more stuble and artful,” suggests the Warpaint’s Theresa Wayman, who also was dismayed by Beyonce’s recent adoption of twerking.
“It just gets worse,” she adds. “Every song on Beyonce’s last album has her basically looking like a slut and she does not need to do that. She’s gorgeous and so fucking talented. And they all take it as women’s liberation!”
After the article was published, group member Wayman took Facebook to add:
“I apologize for being careless with my words. I apologize to fans of Beyonce and Rihanna, I fucking love them too. Me and and my big mouth.”

The only negative thing I can say is that her assumptions that these successful singers are being forced to portray themselves in over-sexualized fashions, came off a bit stereotypical and insensitive to the fact that maybe these women are in full control of their images at this point in their careers, and aren’t the exploited victims she painted them out to be, but in their defense of course. These comments shouldn’t be taken as a threat, but as a cultural misunderstanding, where one side was a bit ignorant in realizing that we apparently now live in an era where certain women can choose to freely express their sexuality in a way that makes them feel empowered, and not exploited, though, not to suggest that the latter doesn’t still occur with less established artists today. I feel compelled to attempt to bring more understanding to this issue, and although ignorance is present on both sides, don’t see why people have to remain ignorant, unless of course they are the types who thrive off of drama and have no better forum to misplace their hate and prejudice.
