In the wake of Danity Kane‘s second (and presumably final) split, some members have charged on together, while other others have re-embarked on their solo journeys.
For the group’s nucleus Dawn Richard, the latter is her chosen path.
The singer is readying her new album ‘Blackheart’ for release on January 15th and, in an interesting nod to her DK days, has called on former bandmate Aundrea Fimbres to join her on the song ‘Phoenix’.
A snippet of the track has surfaced ahead of the project’s arrival. Take a listen below…
Meh.
While we won’t cast judgement until hearing the track in its entirety, the snippet doesn’t boast enough bite to grip interest. Definitely not in the way most of the material on the stellar ‘DK3’ did.
Yes it’s great to see the members still showing solidarity, but we just don’t envisage the masses warming to these half baked collaborations. Same goes for whatever Aubrey and Shannon are busying themselves with.
From where we’re standing, it’s oh so clear that Danity Kane was each member’s best bet at success at this point of their careers. But harping on about what could have been feels a bit redundant at this point.
As such, we’ll await ‘Blackheart’ and hope for Dawn’s sake that it packs more heat than this.

That sounds amazing! i will be supporting the album. Sound better than anything Dawn has put out to be honest.
The snippet sounds very promising. DK fans will like it because it has that pop watered down sound, however, I think Blackheart will have songs better in quality than Phoenix and yes I am definitely buying and supporting Dawn. She is a 5 star indie artist.

What you have to realise that for TG if it was Rita Ora singing or Iggy rapping or a collaboration with both they would’ve lapped it up.

They were in a “group” for a reason. If Diddy believed either of them could be successful solo, he would’ve signed them separately.
They were in a group for a reason because MTB was about putting together a girl band, but it was Dawn he chose to work with after DK disbanded so it speaks volume about her talent.
Having said this, the girl band era is OVER. WE DO NOT CARE FOR GIRL BANDS ANYMORE PERIOD! After Destiny’s Child we never had another girl group who dominated the charts. I know PCD was successful but they did not have the impact that DC, Spice Girls or TLC had. After PCD left girl bands have been flopping and basically the world is just not here for a girl band. So why in God’s name people think the girls of Danity Kane have any chance in hell of being successful when they comeback was already a flop?
Tbqh, I think Dawn should keep doing her solo stuff. If she’s happy with no drama and the other bs, why not? She has fans waiting to buy her album, so again why not?

You are missing the point. Dawn can accomplish the same things she did with DK in 2014 on her own because girls band are dead and DK as a group was never super successful anyways. People like you still think its 2005 and DK just had their number 1 album. We’re in 2015 and it’s DK who? Dawn as a solo artist has better chance 2015 than DK the group. We don’t do groups, trios and duos in 2015, sorry.
I agree in some ways I am huge Dawn fan. However your wrong DK was actually the last commercially successful girl group both of their albums debuted at #1 putting them in Guinness book of records for being the only girl group to ever do that. And both of their albums went platinum in first week.
I completely agree Grapejuice is as messy as they come. This song was actually #1 on the electronic charts. But I suppose not everyone gets art that’s what makes it art. The album was great. The song was one of my faves from the album.
Lets be honest here. The Nucleus of the group was Dawn. The only reason why the groups most recent re-grouping could have been successful- was Dawn’s continued success within the industry since the first breakup.
This song is cute (granted its only a snippet). So it would be exciting to hear what BLACKHEART will offer.

I like it, the vocals are slaying! Disputes being “the fat one who can’t dance” Aundrea was the voice of DK. If only she provided her vocals for the DK3 album before she left.
She actually did. They just took her vocals off. There’s a few songs from the album out there with her vocals though 🙂

I like it. For most who don’t know. This song was recorded for Danity Kane’s album before Aundrea left. Dawn wrote it so when the group broke up she took it back and took Aubrey and Shannon’s vocals off. I’m excited to hear her and Drea slay together.
That ain’t true! Because when Blackheart was planned for October 2013 and the tracklist has been revealed, Phoenix (duet with Aundrea) was already included. And this, before Danity Kane’s rebanded.

No your wrong the group disbanded in August of 2014 dawn didn’t reveal track list til December she has said herself that DK had recorded and Drea asked her not to take vocals off

I really think together they had the X factor and solo they are average at best–all give girls that is.

They made fun of her when she performed Ri and Bey songs in China, then she hit them up with a video, a shoe line and sunglasses and even since they have been annoying, obsessed with the hate and bitter as hell. I have a feeling DK2 will release the budget green screen music video of the songs they recorded behind Dawn’s back next week and the name of their flop duo but they will get overshadowed by real talent again because only God knows what Dawn is coming with on the 15th so they can try it and fail at their bitter fan expense.
