From The Vault: Beyonce, Jennifer Hudson, & Anika Noni Rose Rock ‘Oscars’ With ‘Dreamgirls’ Medley

Published: Sunday 22nd Feb 2015 by Joe

As Hollywood gears up for another Academy Awards ceremony tonight, From The Vault journeys back to the year 2007 when the ‘Dreamgirls’ cast performed a medley of the movie’s finest songs.

‘Dream’ was a huge success both commercially and critically; and a pronounced part of its popularity lay in the material heard throughout the movie. As such, it wasn’t much of a surprise then when its OST hit #1 on the Billboard 200 or when three records from the project were nominated for Best Original Song at the Oscars – namely ‘Love You I Do’, ‘Listen’ and ‘Patience’.

Introduced by Jennifer Lopez, cast-mates Keith Robinson, Anika Noni Rose, Jennifer Hudson and Beyonce  took to the stage to present a rousing rendition of said songs in medley form. Needless to say, the showing was a vocal home-run. Most importantly, the artists displayed incredible chemistry and each of their lights were able to shine during the seven minutes showing. {Side note: It’s always a pleasure for us watching Hudson and Knowles trade verses during ‘Listen’}

Sadly none of the songs won the coveted prize, but J.Hud was named Best Actress In A Supporting Role for her portrayal of Effie White. Hopefully, Common and John Legend fare better tonight with their Golden Globes-winning song ‘Glory’ which will compete against the Diane Warren-penned ‘Grateful’ sung by Rita Ora.
While we await to find out, we invite you to press play and relive the splendour of this moment.

Jennifer and Anika were screaming for dear life!!!!!!!!!!!!! They both lack vocal control………Bey slayed as usual!!!!

    • beelow February 22, 2015

Why is it anytime someone sings louder than Beyonce they are “screaming”?? The hive is so delusional.

      • Keri Qween February 22, 2015

        @beelow

yes they are, the most delusional stanbase ever

      • Lolz February 22, 2015

Jennifer Hudson is a notorious screamer who lacks control. People say that about her because it’s TRUE. Funny because Beyonce haters say she screams when clearly she doesn’t.

    • Tynia February 22, 2015

You must be a high school student who simply worships all things Beyoncé. She fell back to jhud just as she should have lol

  3. I STAN(D) FOR TALENT February 22, 2015

AHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! I remember when critic chose J.Hud as the star of Dreamgirls. She also won an Oscar, a Golden Globe, a critcs’ choice award, a BAFTA, a SAG award, etc. J.Hud won over 30 acting awards for her debut acting role and the queen of photoshop won…. zero. LMFAO!!!! Babidi was soooo pressed. She was beat by a then-nobody. LOL. Thanks Joe. 😆

    • I STAN(D) FOR TALENT February 22, 2015

You are so disrespectful!!! If Rihanna has STD, so do you!!!

      • Tynia February 22, 2015

Tune in to see nobody perform tonight lol

    • Naomi February 22, 2015

And Rihanna has a Razzie award and not a single invite to perform at the Oscars. Meanwhile Beyonce is Golden Globe nominated, has had the most performances at the Oscars in one night and has 20 grammies #StayPressed

      • Naomi February 22, 2015

No ones seething but you which is why you find it hard to make a comment that doesn’t reference the BEAUTIFUL Queen Beyonce. She runs your life. While shes sitting on paper, respect and success you’re sitting in your shanty hut in Africa struggling to get connection just so you can make irrelevant ass comments dedictaed to her.

    • Bitchplease February 22, 2015

      ROFLMFAO @. I Stand……

It’s funny because “Listen” was created just for Beyoncé to ATTEMPT to steal the spotlight. The song was so not needed. They should’ve just stuck with the DG’s originals. With that being said, I prefer her vocals to Jennifer’s anyday.

  5. Suicide Blonde February 22, 2015

Out of all the Oscars’s performances this is the one you chose. What about Celine Dion’s epic 1998 rendition of “My Heart Will Go On”, the theme of an actually classic film like “Titanic”, there’s nothing memorable about “Dreamgirls” and its soundtrack and certainly not about this performance.

    • TheElusiveLamb February 22, 2015

I LOVE that performance too!, but this Dreamgirl performance is great as well.

    • JOHNVIDAL February 23, 2015

Total agreement. There are tons of performances way more iconic and important realted to films which actually won big, were huge hits or left a mark, including some of the Celine Dion´s performances.

  6. Naomi February 22, 2015

Slay! This just shows why Beyonce is vocally better than the other two.

  7. #JACKIE (Cici da baddest) February 22, 2015

    BORING

  8. Brandys Starr February 22, 2015

Love it. Bey is gorgeous and a true vocalist. I have never been a fan of J Huds voice, its just too loud and lacks control

  9. BeyRihLiyah February 22, 2015

2 out of 3 of my faves have graced the Oscars stage

  10. Jake February 22, 2015

Beyoncé’s control is crazy! She really is the best maybe not the loudest but the maitrise is everything! The other two did wonderful two especially Rose with those notes! Funny how Beyoncé got back in the middle like ” Don’t think this ain’t Destiny’s child 2.0 “

    • Royalkev February 22, 2015

Yes! Beyonce’s vocal power is superb, but her control is simply sublime. This performance was perfection!

  11. King February 22, 2015

Great performance. I love when Bey performs with people who can actually sing because it forces her to work harder.

  12. Fine ass lou February 23, 2015

Beyonce fans can’t stand it when she is outperformed. The chick has no range, notice how she was bloodshot red the whole time grunting and screaming like a pirate trying to keep up with everyone else. All she does is grunt and roar it’s annoying and real singers just laugh at her. Nobody takes her serious as a vocalist. Notice how you could barely hear her during the last song. Lol it’s pure comedy. She only got this part because of her celebrity.

    • sam February 23, 2015

      Sorry meant Forgettable^^^

  13. JOHNVIDAL February 23, 2015

    Screaming feast!
    I agree with @suicide
Couldn´t you have chosen a REAL classic song or performance which actually belonged to a REAL classic? You know, a film that slayed at the oscars, or at the box office or something? 🙂
Get your head out of Beyonce´s ass for once!

    • Come on February 24, 2015

Dreamgirls did slay at the box office…

      • Come on February 24, 2015

And it had many Oscar nominations.
