Six years have separated fans from 2012’s ‘Lotus’ to the latest album of powerhouse vocalist Christina Aguilera.
Delivered after years of false starts and reroutes, the set – kicked off by the Ty Dolla $ign-assisted buzz single ‘Accelerate’ – saw promotion for its follow-up singles and parent album do just that with appearances on Carpool Karaoke, Billboard Music Awards, ‘TRL,’ and more to support.
Released June 15, the set’s chances at #1 were dashed by opposing releases from 5 Seconds of Summer and a surprise drop from Beyonce & Jay Z, but that certainly didn’t stop it from moving a respectable figure. Curious to see how close her final figure was to the predicted 70-75,000k units it was projected to move? Look inside to see:
Pop diva Christina Aguilera returns to the Billboard 200 albums chart after a long break, as her new studio album Liberation bows at No. 6. It’s the singer’s seventh top 10 effort, and first album since 2012.
Liberation — released on June 15 via RCA Records — starts with 68,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending June 21, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 62,000 were in traditional album sales. [source]
The numbers fall just below that of the first week figures of ‘Lotus,’ which moved 73,000 units in its inaugural 7 days! Congratz to Xtina for her latest top 10. Welcome back.
