Rihanna Reign: ‘Ocean’s 8 Rocks Box Office With Record-Breaking Figures

Published: Saturday 9th Jun 2018 by David

It’s official...Rihanna is officially unstoppable.

Good news for the star’s latest cinematic venture ‘Oceans 8‘ below…

The movie, which is an all-female take on ‘Oceans 11’ impacted theatres this week and, much like Fenty Beauty, has soared commercially!

How high? Enviably.

For, with $42 million set to be swept up by the movie this weekend, it is to outperform each and every picture from the all-male fronted trilogy much to the delight of those who feared the movie wouldn’t be well-received by fans (see ‘Ghostbuster’ drama).

‘Deadline’ details…

Ocean’s 8‘s $15.9M Friday haul is also a best for the Ocean’s movies, outflanking Ocean’s Eleven ($13.3M), Ocean’s Twelve ($14.7M) and Ocean’s Thirteen ($13.1M). Should Ocean’s 8 ticket sales keep up into Saturday, the movie will rep the second-best live-action pic debut for Oscar-winner Sandra Bullock after Warner Bros’ Gravity ($55.7M). Though Ocean’s 8 has been sold on its ensemble cast, Bullock is featured front and center in the materials as Debbie Ocean, the sister to Clooney’s Danny Ocean.

Fantastic!

Have you seen the movie?

Girl nobody went to see that just because she’s in it. It would have made good money regardless. It’s Sandra Bullock for goodness sake, everybody loves her. If she really had that kind of power then Battleship wouldnt have flopped.

    • blue June 9, 2018

you are so right, i mean rihanna is just the reason the film got a huge social media footprint… but beyond that nobody, absolutely nobody went to see her…

    • Ispeakfacts June 9, 2018

      @SMH @blue

Y’all don’t speak for me! I went for Rhianna & only Rhianna!

    • Meme June 9, 2018

I went to see Rihanna and Rihanna only. If she wasn’t in he movie I wouldn’t have even watch it. And I’m sorry others did the same.

      • blue June 9, 2018

    • Caribbean Native June 9, 2018

    • ??? June 9, 2018

I only want to see it because of Rihanna. I never seen any of the previous films.

      • Roman Zolanski June 10, 2018

Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter and Sandra Bullock, they have 13 academy award nominations and 4 academy awards between them and tgj praises Rihanna ahahaha
Have u seen Battleship or Valerian both with Rihanna? She was a mediocre actress only booked to attract millenials!

If you say so but it’s gotten really bad reviews. I guess this is from people being curious about the new “Ocean’s” saga.

@Blue – The movie sucks dude. hahaha You can say the percentage a gazillion times over, it doesn’t change the sucky reviews babe.

  3. Whoops June 9, 2018

Lol Seriously, Bye. Nobody is going to this movie to see Rihanna. They didn’t jump to see her just because she’s her in the epic flop Valerian and they aren’t doing it now. It’s a franchise movie with an all female cast and multiple Oscar award winning actresses.

    • blue June 9, 2018

yes lets compare movies she was in for like 5 minutes to one where shes part of the main cast…also she was the lead in Home and that did 50M first weekend

      • Whoops June 9, 2018

This isn’t a big role either sis. And unless you’re the lead, the amount of on screen time you’re gonna get is unknown to the public until they see it. So that’s irrelevant. All they know is that Rihanna is in the movie. And Lol, home is a children’s movie. Those 5 year olds don’t care about Rihanna. They wanna see some purple aliens. I have no doubt that Rihanna pushes some

      • Whoops June 9, 2018

        Cont….

…people over the fence to see her, but if you really think she actually drove the success of this movie, you’re crazy.

      • blue June 9, 2018

you know nothing for sure though… all you know is that rih is part of the main cast, and is credited with the movie’s large social media reach… and shes been the main focus for their press tour while absent from it… so yes has contributed alot to the movie’s success, how much none of us will know.

also it was announced way before their premiere that her roles in battleship and valerian would be small ones. and even then those films suffered more from a huge budget then getting people to theaters as battleship grossed 300mil and so did valerian… which is about the same range as ocean’s is predicted to land.

      • Whoops June 9, 2018

Rihanna is responsible for a large social media reach? I didn’t know that. Is this common knowledge, critic consensus, what. And how large is this social media reach you’re talking about? I mean, *sigh*, fine sis, but you speak as if Rihanna has been known to make people run to the movies and Sandra, Cate, Anne, and Sarah, are so second rate that it’s unbelievable they could’ve done it without her. Honestly, according to the press I’ve seen, Rihanna is not the main focus. She’ll always get attention but I just don’t see a fair amount of news on her, relative to the other stars, to see that she’s the main focus. The press tour is still happening. The reviews are still rolling in. And the majority of the headlines to me, are either focused on star, Sandra or the breakout scene stealer, Awkwafina. I just don’t think it’s fair to praise Rihanna for the success of the film, especially while ignoring the other actresses, because frankly and undeniably, for a good movie that people will take seriously with good acting, Rihanna needs them A LOT more than they need her, and because Rihanna does not have a proven track record of putting butts in seats. I can believe that she brought some people to the theater but a significant amount? I can’t see it. I can’t bring myself to credit her with the success of a movie that is being lead by so many women that have duplicated this level of success on their own for decades. We just gonna have to disagree on this one.

      • blue June 9, 2018

Lol Seriously, Bye. Nobody is going to this movie to see Rihanna.

        that was you…no?

nobody is diminishing the the other actresses’ role in making the movie a success, but you took it upon yourself to diminish rih’s

also yes the film has is said to have had a larger than average 600m social media reach, rih who has a social media following that eclipses the other women combined has been credited with that.

also nice to see you change your tune from nobody went to her, to her bringing some in…because essentially thats all they all did, not one of them alone can be credited for the movie’s success when they all played their parts to make it a success.

      • Whoops June 10, 2018

Lmao, girl. Grow up. The people on this post who say Rihanna brought “nobody” in are essentially saying that she didn’t make a difference. We aren’t saying that she didn’t motivate 5 or so people to go. That’s NOBODY, sis. And somehow the people in this comment section think that them letting us know they went for rihanna changes anything. This is a music blog on a rihanna post. I guess we have no statisticians in the house. My tune is the same. NOBODY went to this movie for rihanna. And I didn’t diminish Rihanna’s role, her role IS diminished by her being the INFERIOR actress. Get over it. She’s not on Sandra, Anne, Paula, or Cate’s level and the fact that you think so is hilarriouuussss. ? I don’t know how to explain to you the concept that just because everyone is in a movie means they’re all responsible for the success, but I hope you figure it out one day. Get well. Also, drop the link for that 600 mil social media reach story. That’s cool. I wanna read it.

      • Whoops June 10, 2018

This probably will not increase your chances of understanding but I’ll fix it anyways. For my own benefit.

***in a movie, doesn’t mean they’re all responsible

  4. Meteorite June 9, 2018

Oh right, because no one came to Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Helena Bonham Carter

    • Guest June 9, 2018

Exactly. I don’t like the way this post is framed. These are A list actresses. An All Star cast. With women who can all individually carry successful films by themselves, and we aren’t talking about a Dreamworks animation. I spy at least 3 Oscar winners. But it’s the “Unstoppable Rihanna reign” that won’t let up?? Riiight. That’s diminishing to those other women who have sold more tickets for a film than Rihanna ever has. At the very least, TGJ could have congratulated Rihanna while making an actual effort to at least mention all the other women as credit for the success of the film. Otherwise they could’ve kept this reach of a post.

    • blue June 9, 2018

have you ever been on TGJ before they do this all the time… hell its surprising that they are praising rihanna at all, usually they credit everyone else involved before they mention her.

      • Guest June 9, 2018

yyyyeeeaah…. That don’t make it okay. I’m not gonna celebrate when you give me a little because you usually give me nothing. You need to do it right all the way around. This post is lowkey insulting to the other actresses. You can highlight Rihanna, because the site content is usually music focused, but damn, at least mention the other women. It’s not like she did it alone or carried the movie.

  5. CX June 10, 2018

….but if the film would have tanked, it eou

  6. Bravo!! June 10, 2018

I thought the stars of this movie was Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, and even Anne Hathway.

  7. F You June 10, 2018

Only watching for Queen Rihanna ?

    • Roman Zolanski June 10, 2018

I only went for Queen Cate and wasn’t disappointed by her performance. If you’re watching solely for Rih’s performance you’ll be fairly disappointed she’s as good actress as Kim Kardashian lool

  8. ROCK June 10, 2018

I know i won’t be missed on this blog or whatever. But one more ridiculous article like this and I’m done with this childish website.

  9. Keith June 10, 2018

Saw the movie andi would recommend anyone PAYING for it. Its a cute, popcorn flick. Rhianna, literally, has maybe 10 lines. She looks great in the red dress, though….

    • Keith June 10, 2018

“andi would recommend” this = and I wouldn’t recommend

  10. Datredd23 June 10, 2018

Another accomplishment to add to her resume!

  11. DIABETES UNBOTHERED June 10, 2018

Rih has little cameo appearances in every movie. I didn’t watch but trailer suggest rih was barely In It. Was barely in battleship either so congrats to the real stars

  12. DIABETES UNBOTHERED June 10, 2018

Rih has like 5 movies and never once was the lead outside of annimation. ?

  13. JOHNVIDAL June 10, 2018

LMAO This post was written so that we cuold make fun of Ritry, wasn´t it? Literally nobody went to see this because of her and I´ve not seen a single review where she gets mentioned. Great Cate Blanchet and the one who seems to be the lead role Sandra Bullock are the draws. And then from what I´ve heard Anne Hathaway seems to be the hidden jewel of the film. The 3 of them fantastic actresses. Ritry and her nonexistent talent???? lmao
Anyway stop using the word “record” for irrelevant achievements.

    • Datredd23 June 10, 2018

Lol mad are we ? The cast worships Rih and praised her endelessly… She is a global superstar I’m sure she had some effect in filling them seats stop hating lol

      • JOHNVIDAL June 11, 2018

Worships??? LMAO Shup th up you JOKE!

      • Datredd23 June 11, 2018

By the end of the summer she will be a billion boxseller actress while being the highest selling digital artist per RIAA Certifications I see why your angry must be tough for haters like you

    • JOHNVIDAL June 11, 2018

Keep reaching for the universe. It makes you simply look retarded/irrelevant/basic.

      • Datredd23 June 11, 2018

How could I be reaching when everything I said is factual? Numbers don’t lie but people do. Grow up and be a man your that mad to throw out slurs like that to someone you’ve never even seen or met ? Pathetic
