Lizzo lit up the stage at the 2019 MTV Movie & TV Awards with a theatrical performance of breakout bop ‘Juice.’
Embracing the theme of the show, the rising star shone with a spirited tribute to Whoopi Goldberg‘s 1993 movie ‘Sister Act 2: Back In The Habit.’
Backed by a troop of dancers, Lizzo re-enacted parts of Lauryn Hill’s now legendary rendition of ‘Joyful Joyful.’

With so many acts not understanding the importance of spectacle or flat out being incapable of delivering, Lizzo continues to be a breath of fresh air.
She’s pairing great material with memorable performances. A winning formula for longevity.
Juice is a better song than truth hurts and deserves recognition.

Lizzo is going to be a legend. No doubt about it. She’s SO charismatic and showing the “big girl” can be the entire focus.

Juice is a ‘meh’ song — a one note retro number that’s cute at best. When you hear the glory, versatility and sass that was ‘Coconut Oil’ it makes you wonder why she went for this old school sound that anyone could make? For her major debut?
Xcuse Me, Phone, Good as Hell, and Worship are songs only Lizzo could make. This record here, Juicy (and most of the song on it), I could hear from Angie Stone, Ledisi, Jill Scott, Leela Jame, etc. that’s why it doesn’t get much recognition even for her Atlantic debut single. I work at radio and few of us on the circuit enjoy playing it. She’s not serving much of anything in it, but we’ll spin it once or twice to support Lizzo.
This MTV performance show what is spirited and unique about Lizzo, the record itself does not.
