Lil Nas X’s ‘Satan Shoe’ Makers Have to Buy Back Every Sold Pair, Per Nike Settlement

Published: Thursday 8th Apr 2021 by Rashad

Lil Nas X may be sitting on top of the Billboard Hot 100 with his latest hit, ‘Montero (Call Me By Your Name),’ but – thanks to his controversial ‘Satan Shoe’ – the GRAMMY winner also landed atop another tally:  Nike’s sh*tlist.

As we reported here, X capitalized on the hoopla around the Satanic content found in his ‘Montero’ music video by announcing an endorsement of MSCHF’s ‘Satan Shoes.’  The kicks were deemed such because there were only 666 pairs manufactured, they contained real human blood, a pentagram, and a host of other Luciferian references.

Though the shoe bore the Nike emblem, the sportswear giant was sure to quickly distance themselves from the negative press associated with the sneakers – even taking to the courts to block the sale of the shoe.
With a judge siding in their favor, it’s been revealed part of Nike’s settlement was not only to halt future sales of the shoes but also to force MSCHF to fully refund any Satan Shoe purchase to date.

“Nike had nothing to do with the Satan Shoes or the Jesus Shoes,” Nike wrote in an official statement. “If any purchasers were confused, or if they otherwise want to return their shoes, they may do so for a full refund. Purchasers who choose not to return their shoes and later encounter a product issue, defect, or health concern should contact MSCHF, not Nike.”

MSCHF’s lawyers spoke out on their behalf.

“With these Satan Shoes — which sold out in less than a minute — MSCHF intended to comment on the absurdity of the collaboration culture practiced by some brands, and about the perniciousness of intolerance,” MSCHF’s legal counsel said. “Having already achieved its artistic purpose, MSCHF recognized that settlement was the best way to allow it to put this lawsuit behind it so that it could dedicate its time to new artistic and expressive projects.”
