Billboard 200: Lil Nas X’s ‘Montero’ Debuts Strong But DENIED #1 By Drake

Published: Sunday 26th Sep 2021 by Sam

Lil Nas X created quite the storm of buzz around his debut studio album ‘Montero.’

Preceded by its chart-topping title-track, the LP also benefitted from follow-up bops ‘Industry Baby’ (which launched at #2) and recent effort ‘That’s What I Want.’

All laid a solid foundation for the ‘Old Town Road’ performer’s first-ever project commercially.

With the first-week numbers officially unveiled, how did it fare?

Find out below…

The latest iteration of the Billboard 200 has been unwrapped and reveals that ‘Montero’ has premiered at #2 with equivalent sales of 126,000.

Streaming fuelled the project, with the 147.16 million on-demand streams of the set’s tracks accounting for 102,000 of the LP’s total sum.

Based on industry-wide patterns, the numbers would have placed the project in contention for the top spot on a quieter week.

However, with the reverberations of Drake‘s ‘Certified Lover Boy’ still making waves, it was Drizzy who snatched #1 position in the album’s third week. Its sales were to the tune of 171,000.

Still, a solid showing from Nas.

What’s more, with ‘Montero’ being jammed packed with possible hits (including those with the likes of Doja Cat and Megan Thee Stallion), it has ample potential to maintain a presence in the upper echelon of the charts.

Yall dont know how difficult it is to have a number one debut album.

    megan
    Lil nas x
    Adele
    Gaga
    Katy Perry
    Taylor swift
    Rihanna
    Dua lipa
    Doja
    Sam Smith

None of these people’s debut albums hit number one.

Mediocre sales for someone with his amount of massive promo and streams. I expected him to scrape 200k at minimum. Maybe 240K at max. This goes to show that the public isn’t feeling him, only his trolling stunts.

I said 100k or he’s a flop so this is commendable for a record without a physical release, all streams

Good job, hope riding Satan’s demon d*** was worth it ☺️

Normani has only one solo song, be quiet.

Normani literally releases 1 song every 2 years

It’s sad the amount of people who actively seek out and champion the downfall of others. Anyway…

This is great news for him and what it means for gay culture in general. He’s knocked down doors and broken down barriers and is just starting. I’ll have to admit that at one point I underestimated him. He proved me and everyone else who doubted him WRONG as he was supposed to do! Great Job, Lil Nas X

    • J September 26, 2021

Definitely broke down barriers for the Satanists and Gays 😈🏳️‍🌈

    • Chen Laur September 26, 2021

      Agreed.

    • Motormouth September 27, 2021

Just getting started? Chile this is his peak since he has zero talent to back up all the stunts. Eventually people will get sick of the nonsense

    • Shayla Queen™ 👑 September 27, 2021

It’s all been done before and those barriers were already broken down by people like Freddie Mercury and George Michael, people who really suffered when homophobia was still rife. This privileged brat in 2021 hasn’t suffered or done shît and it’s disrespectful to those who paved the way for him to be able to pull these stunts. Plus he has no talent to back it up.

      • Doctor Benway September 27, 2021

Freddy Mercury wasn’t openly gay, at least the public didn’t know about it. Same for George Michael, he was just caught by an undercover cop and then made his coming out. Lil Nas X is black and a rapper so part of a very homophobic culture.
Come back when you stop being a d*****.

      • Shayla Queen™ 👑 September 27, 2021

So you’re saying blacks are extremely homophobic. Gotcha.
