That Grape Juice Exclusive: DJ Ace Unveils This Week’s #SPOTLIGHT3 From #EverythingRNB

Published: Saturday 18th Dec 2021 by DJ Ace

Here at That Grape Juice, we love all things R&B! So, fittingly, we’ve teamed up with DJ Ace – one of the UK’s most revered R&B connoisseurs and host of BBC 1Xtra‘s weekly series Everything RNB (which airs Sundays at 10pm).

Each week he’ll be rounding up his latest show and previewing what’s upcoming on the next episode. Right here on That Grape Juice.

Without further ado, check out the latest installment with DJ Ace below…

It’s your boy Ace and I’m back with yet another dope #SPOTLIGHT3. With releases from the likes of Jhene Aiko to the legendary ‘Baby Girl’ Aaliyah, and the ‘Can We Talk’ challenge popping off on socials, it’s been yet another great week in the world of R&B!

Jhené Aiko – Wrap Me Up

Jhene Aiko is the latest singer to give us a festive track just in time for Christmas. ‘Wrap Me Up’ may sound familiar if you’re an early Jhené fan. She original previewed the song on Soundcloud 9 years ago, with James Fauntleroy also adding some vocals.

6lack – Rent Free

‘Rent Free’ is one of two tracks released this week by Atlanta native, 6lack. He recently made an appearance on Khalid’s album ‘Scenic Drive,’ but these tracks seem to signal a new 2022 album. His last project dropped in 2020, so 6lack fans are well overdue for a new body of work.

Aaliyah – Poison (ft. The Weeknd)

The Weekend has steered clear of the R&B genre for a good while, opting for the Pop side of things, but this week he surprised us all by featuring alongside the legend that is ‘Baby Girl’ Aaliyah on her posthumous single, ‘Poison.’ This is the only the second time original Aaliyah vocals have been released since her untimely death 20 years ago.

Hit me up and let me know what you thought of this week’s #SPOTLIGHT3, I’ll be back next week to put you onto best in new R&B! Make sure you catch the last 1Xtra’s R&B Show this coming Sunday at 10pm. I’ll be chopping it up with one of Pop culture’s most controversial voices Joe Budden. We’ll be breaking down some real R&B, don’t miss it!
