With over 100 million records sold worldwide, countless R&B hits, and Gold and Platinum plaques galore, Queen of Hip-Hop Soul Mary J. Blige is the epitome of “icon.”
For that reason and more, the 6th annual Urban One Honors will bestow the multi-hyphenate diva its prestigious Entertainment Icon Award.
Just days after announcing music legends Frankie Beverly and Dionne Warwick would be among the honorees at the Urban One Honors’ 2024 ceremony (as we reported here), event organizers lifted the lid that Blige would join the illustrious list.
“Urban One is thrilled to honor the incomparable Mary J. Blige as our 2024 Entertainment Icon,” revealed Michelle L. Rice, president of TV One and CLEO TV. “Mary’s immeasurable talent and award-winning music has shaped our culture and has had a profound impact on artists and music across all genres, but most notably the elevation of female artists in both R&B and Hip Hop across generations. She fully personifies the ‘Best in Black’ theme of this year’s Urban One Honors.”
The recognition comes less than two years after Mary received the Icon Award at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards.
Set to be taped Saturday (January 20) at Atlanta’s Coca-Cola Roxy, the show will be televised during Black History Month on TV One on February 25.
The ceremony’s star-studded performer list includes Teyana Taylor, BeBe Winans, October London, and a reunion of ‘R&B Divas’ stars KeKe Wyatt, Chante Moore, Nicci Gilbert, and Angie Stone.
