With Usher‘s ninth studio effort ‘Coming Home,’ his first proper album since 2016’s ‘Hard II Love,’ the R&B icon is undoubtedly looking to find residence at the top of the Billboard 200 – a position he’s all too familiar with as four of the project’s predecessors boasted runs atop the all-genre chart.
Preceded by the heart-tugging ‘Ruin‘ featuring Pheelz, the romantic ‘Color Purple‘ soundtrack single ‘Risk It All’ with fellow GRAMMY winner H.E.R., the dancefloor-ready jam ‘Standing Next to You (Remix)’ with Jung Kook, and the milestone-marking single ‘Good Good‘ with 21 Savage and Summer Walker, ‘Home’ is a star-studded affair that also features Latto, The-Dream, and Burna Boy as well as production from big names like Jermaine Dupri, Bryan-Michael Cox, D’Mile, Tricky Stewart, Pharrell Williams, Hit-Boy, and more.
Uniquely serving as his first release as an independent artist as well, hop inside to get acquainted with the latest from Ush ahead of his highly anticipated Super Bowl Halftime Show gig on Sunday (February 11).
I had really high hopes when I heard the singles…but the overall album is quite disappointing. WTF usher.
Anyways, still looking forward to the halftime show!
Not as polish as I expected… agreed with you
I feel like I downloaded an album just like this back in 2007 and used iTunes to sync it to my iPod.
His voice will always give but the production/writing falls flat for an artist of his stature in today’s standard. I got this from the snippets, I know there has to be a gem in there somewhere, it might be “please u.”
Absolutely horrible! It sounds like a rushed job to capitalize on the SuperBowl.
I thought coming home, A Town Girl and Bop were standout tracks! Love the vocals, harmony and production of this album. Really done nicely!
Bop and the second half of the album are nice. The first half needs some retooling…
Pink Friday 2
Too many filler tracks. The first half of the album sounds like an entirely different project from the second half. Album should be 15 tracks at most.
Very disappointed tbh. Had some hopes but all the songs sound mediocre and there is no standout
I like the album overall but the 2nd half capture me more. It’s a grown and s*** album and his vocals are on point 🔥🔥🔥🔥
His days of releasing good albums and hitting big numbers are long gone. He is too old to be acting like a teenager, he should had done an adult contemporary r&b album. He still sings about the same nonsense he did back in the day.
