The net was set ablaze last week when reports that American Idol producers were planning a mid-season shake-up caught on like wildfire. Multiple sources claimed that the show’s creators were looking to oust Mariah Carey and replace her with rival and former judge on the show Jennifer Lopez. Carey’s only saving grace was said to be the legal action she threatened upon learning of the “coup”.

Keen to establish if the story is fact or fiction, Extra put the question to Lopez directly in Los Angeles last night. Find out what she said below…
Hmm. As much as J.Lo’s suggestive silence indicates that there may be truth to the rumors, the cynic in us feels it’s one big (and clever) case of PR play. Or, worse for Carey, a calculated means to bump her off the panel by her nemesis.
Does anyone else find it suspicious that the story “breaks” the week Ms. Lopez announces her new single ‘Live It Up’? There are a few other interesting tidbits that make the whole episode rather convenient in its timing, namely..
* Fact that producers are beginning to think of next year’s panel (as they do every year at this time); reviewing what and who worked this year in comparison to prior seasons. With Mimi widely being panned for her credible, yet boring critique and with ratings on the wane, what time better than the present to launch a silent campaign for your old job?
* Mariah fired her well-known manager in 2008. He and his team have since gone on to orchestrate J.Lo’s comeback – including her initial Idol run, which helped light the spark under her mega-hit ‘On The Floor’. What’s more, under his guidance, the foundation was solidly set for Lopez’s first ever world tour. Hence, in knowing firsthand how important the Idol platform is for any artist, especially a 43-year-old diva, it feels like Team J.Lo are actively courting her former seat back.
* In the event she’s not pushing for a return to Idol, the story is simply great publicity for Lopez and a bad look for Mimi; which given that their new projects are set to be released during the same window makes the surfacing of such rumors seem more calculated than coincidence.

Then she’s signing to some flop label. Lol.. Idol really isn’t a big deal anymore. They hyped Nicki up, where’s the audience that she was supposed to bring? She got that money and that’s that.. A lot of people tuned out because of her.. This site knows better..
No need to fight about who is a bigger musician. Mariah wins easily, all of us know that. But J. Lo is quite successful as a musician as well. To be honest she is an icon for me. If you are a guy, you cannot understand it. Her beauty, charisma, amazing dancing skills and cute personality make me respect her. She is such an inspiration to me. Her fashion is flawless! Mariah has an amazing voice that J. Lo lacks, but J. Lo has IT (I cannot even define it, it is simply there when you look at her) that Mariah misses. So stop arguing, both are great!

I’d love to see Jlo return to Idol. I love her, she was just a great judge with something constructive to say. I’m here for the music too! the Jenny from the Block vibe is just what she needs, I’m glad she’s returning to her roots. Mariah’s returning back to music and after Idol she will not be ignored once she drops. So, it’s a win win for everybody!

The Lovers need not to fall into Sam trap and lambs need not to feed into the haters. I AM A LAMB ALL DAY BUT neither of these woman are flops people. STOP comparing these two. Rules to life, even winners lose. Meaning they both may have a few flop projects but their careers are not flops. Both woman have longevity for different reasons. Mariah for her music and voice & Jennifer for dancing, beauty, fashion, & movies. It is okay lambs that Mariah may not be on JLo level for movies or fashion but JLo is not on MC level of singing and making music, writing, and producing.

The AI producers fed Jennifer her every critique to assist them in manipulating last year’s competition. Mariah thinks for herself and comes across as MUCH more genuine and caring as an AI judge.

Yes, Mariah is a far better singer and has much better songs, but Jennifer seems pretty intent on establishing herself as a huge touring star like Madonna. I think Jennifer’s concerts over the summer did quite well whereas Mariah has a hard time getting a crowd. Jennifer just needs to have tons and tons of better songs quickly so she has good material to tour. Love? was a good album but I had already heard half of the songs when it came out.
That said, having Mariah and JLo both on idol at the same time would be insane. You would HAVE to see that.
