One thing nobody can take away from gaga is she always delivers when it come to music videos. She made watching music videos fun again (08 vmas nominees were all pretty bland) but I must say, for me, she did not bring much. Magic show on a plain stage…weird images she will later say have more meaning than it does at face value etc. and it is for a song that is not music fan friendly. Main gaga fans like it, compared to the general public liking it. Run the world is 1 of beys worse singles…her worse lead single we all can say that, but the video backs it up and made it better with great choreo…this video doesn’t do that and it looks like Laurie Ann knock off dancing.

I don’t care if there weren’t any other better videos of the year. The video should be able to hold its own. First of all, this looks low budget but I understand not every gaga does can live up the the budget of bad romance. However, it coulda been more inserted.
I will say this though. This video isn’t as “wild and crazy” as people would say and was expected. This video was more so very Theater type. Like you would see if you want to see a Broadway play. You have keep in mind though, Gaga is a theater major, she isn’t going to give you no thrown together video. Theater Majors are taught to express yourself fully and nothing is crazy, and everything is art! You have to understand the mindset of them to fully get what they are doing. Well I´m not a little moster but I´m a person who tries to have f****** common sense and tries to be as unbiased as possible. Gaga is a better artist, musican and singer than the “artists” most of the people in the comments section in Gaga´s posts stan for. Just like it´s obvious Applause, even if not my cup of tea, is way better than Roar. Can´t believe Katy Perry fans are feeling themselves this much when their fave released that mediocre and basic song which seems to be written for a 15 years old Disney star despite being like 30 years old. Seriously!
I am not a Katy or Gaga fan, but Roar is clearly not as good as Applause. Gaga didn’t exactly hit it on the nail either, but her song is definitely the superior one out of the two. The struggle to convince people otherwise is hilarious… Btw, I really don’t need anyone to point out where these songs are at on Itunes either, quality has nothing to do with sales.

Honestly, I’m not a Lady Gaga fan, but I thought the video was amazing, visually stunning and certainly should be considered a contender for video of the year.
The video is more attractive than the song. This phase of music is not hot anymore. Only real fans will be entertained by it. i like GaGa and I dare her to try something different.

What the hell was that? Sorry it was too much going on. Lady Gaga is just pointless.
I think half the fun of any piece of art, is interpreting it. Artists whose visuals are as intrinsic to the music as the beat or the melody (e.g. Marilyn Manson, Bjork, Grace Jones or Bowie) are always more interesting to watch because they have a message, point or something valid to say that transcends the music. After watching the video a couple of times, it’s obvious theres a lot here to interpret and I think by now, after 20 music videos we all know Gaga doesn’t do things by halves.
After watching her interview on GMA where she breaks things down a little bit I actually love the video a whole lot more, here’s some of the more choice influences & themes:
1. A lot of the writhing around on the floor comes from her practising the choreography lying down (after the surgery)
2. The many different looks in the video are representative of her love of transformation, specifically transforming as magic.
3. The single cover (as well as the subsequent look in the video) initially started off as Gaga being made up like a court jester, clown or harlequin. Traditionally the role of the court jester was to entertain so as to garner “applause” from their audience.
4. While lyrically the song can come across as egotistical, she explained that audiences applaud when they’re happy, and she lives to make the fans happy.
5. The ARTPOP campaign is predicated by the exchange of images through technology. The image of her sitting on a chair made of motherboards and microchips is representative of the way in which her fans and her interact with each other, i.e. social media.
6. As with all artists, theres postmodern referencing happening all over the place, the swan imagery is in fact a theme Inez & Vinoodh (directors of this video) explored with Bjork on her Vespertine album, the black and white sequences with Gaga wearing the head wrap evokes the character “Death” in Igmar Bergmans “The Seventh Seal”, The hand bra which reminds me of Janet Jacksons infamous rolling stone cover from the 90’s, the clam shell bikini and long flowing hair is a clear reference to Botticelli’s “The Birth of Venus”, the glass wings were actually a costume David Bowie used in the mid 80’s for his “Glass Spider” tour and the flat stylised backdrop at the beginning is reminiscent of German expressionist cinema,
As i said, a lot to take in, but i found I enjoyed it a whole lot more when it was a little clearer of what was going on.
To everyone who keeps commenting on Gaga copying/ripping off other artists…That is the point, and she admits it in this song. She reffers to jeff Koons. I think Lady Gaga is an artists who performs/creates music, then presents it as a hybrid of postmodernism and pop-art.

Watching the video the day after its debut again I have to say she just SLAYED. I dare her peers to make videos like her. They just can´t.
