It’s that time of year again!
Indeed, the weekend brought with it the 2015 Grammy nominations unveiled, as per usual, of a nomination special weeks before the actual showing. But, what also comes with the ‘per usual’ showing are the jaw-dropping surprises, snubs, and all out “shut-outs” that accompany the annual spectacle.
Always a heated debate-starter, the coveted tally saw the likes of Trey Songz, Lana Del Rey, Justin Bieber, Jason Derulo, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez, and Michael Jackson all go without mention.
For Bieber, whose manager made headlines for his rant regarding his 2013 Grammy shutout, this would be a third-go-round despite consistently clocking some of the year’s biggest hits.
Tuck in below for a list of other surprises and snubs:
Snub: Lady Gaga’s ‘ARTPOP’ completely shut out
Though her single ‘Applause’ was released in time for last year Grammy’s (and shut out), fans held onto hope that the Lady Gaga album would receive some form of critical acclaim from the academy.
That hope has now been dashed in every form. But hey, at least she did get some recognition for her ‘Cheek To Cheek’ album with Tony Bennett.
Surprise: Miley Cyrus finally gets a nod
Finally, the twerktastic pop diva earns her first Grammy nod for her album ‘Bangerz’ in the Best Pop Vocal Album category.
Snub: Pharrell Williams’ “Happy,” Ariana Grande’s “Problem,” John Legend’s “All of Me,” & Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse” All Left Out of Major Categories
Let’s face it: there were no six songs you heard more on the radio in 2014 than Pharrell’s ‘Happy,’ Ariana Grande’s ‘Problem,’ Iggy Azalea’s ‘Fancy,’ John Legend’s ‘All of Me,’ and Katy Perry’s ‘Dark Horse.’ Interestingly, only one of these tunes galloped into the ‘Big Four’ – Azalea’s.
The other four chart-toppers may have been mentioned elsewhere amongst nominations, but in no major category.
P.S. – How did Perry’s ‘Dark Horse’ not get nominated for music video of the year? It was amazing (as were ‘Roar’ and ‘Unconditionally’)!
Surprise: Lecrae nominated in secular category
Lecrae is just a beast. This year not only saw him become the first gospel artist in history to debut at #1 on the Billboard 200, but now the rapper is earning mention amongst his secular contemporaries at next year’s Grammys.
Go boy!
Snub: Nicki Minaj gets nominated again…barely
Finally, our girl Nicki Minaj gets her just due recognition from the Grammy academy. Sliding into the ‘Best Rap Song’ category with her hit ‘Anaconda,’ she also finds mention with Jessie J & Ariana Grande for their hit ‘Bang Bang.’
Surprise: Iggy Azalea nabs 4 nominations in her first official era
Unlike nemesis Nicki, Iggy didn’t have to wait years to get her first group of nods as a leading act. The Aussie rapstress, on the hems of hit ”Fancy” and her debut album “The New Classic,” landed 4 nominations in categories that do include Best New Artist and Best Rap Album. Oop!
Snub: DJ Mustard Doesn’t Cut the Mustard for ‘Producer of the Year’ nominations
He’s wielded some of the year’s biggest R&B hits from his envied soundboard, but apparently the Grammy committee wasn’t hearing it. As such, DJ Mustard goes without mention on this year’s nomination tally.
Surprise: Meghan Trainor’s ‘All About That Bass’ lands nods for ‘Record of the Year’ and ‘Song of the Year’
Go Meghan Trainor! Her inaugural hit, ‘All About That Bass,’ landed right in the holy grail for songs at this year’s Grammys!
Snub: Michelle Williams’ ‘Say Yes,’ the biggest gospel song of the year, snubbed in any applicable category
Michelle Williams, with the assistance of Destiny’s Child bandmates Kelly Rowland and Beyonce, wielded the year’s top gospel hit in the form of ‘Say Yes.’ The song is currently #1 on Hot Gospel charts.
Apparently, it was greeted by the Grammy committee with a resounding “no” as it was left out in the cold from this year’s nominations. There’s still hope for her album in next year’s running though.
Surprise & Snub: Besides ‘Album of the Year,’ no other category of “The Big Four” (Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Best New Artist) have artists of color.
Yep. Congratz to Beyonce and Pharrell for at least landed in the tally’s top category, but elsewhere, it’s white-washed.
*****
Honorable mention Snub: Michael Jackson, Justin Bieber, Robin Thicke, Trey Songz, Jennifer Lopez, & Mariah Carey Get No Love…at all. And, where was ‘Loyal’ for ‘Rap/Sung Collabo’?
Honorable mention surprise: Usher Puckers Up For 4 nominations, 2 by his lonesome
Read the full list of nominations here.
Most of those so called “snubs” make total sense. The Grammys has become too placating of what’s popular over the last 10-20 years. Back in the 80s they regularly snubbed some biggest pop stars and nonated/awarded abstract artists who were barely commercial. They need to get back to that, so that they stop looking more and more interchangeable with the VMAs.
true. grammys aren’t that respected anymore.
they look like a “classier” version of the vmas now.
Totally.
Beyonce is lucky that she came in this era of the Grammy desperation.
Michael, Madonna, Janet, Prince & Whitney, easily the most influential artists of the 80s and 90s, all have shockingly less awards than Beyonce. These artists revolutionized artistry, stage performance and songwriting for pop music. And yet, when you look at how Grammy’s were given out during this era, the committee clearly favored a more adult contemporary sound, going to the likes of Bette Midler and Luther Vandross, and alternative rock.
I’m not sure where things should be right now with the Grammy’s, but they’ve clearly lost track of what it means to be a great song in favor of more popular selections in hopes of increased viewership.
I agree with the 3 of you.
say what u want about mariah, but her new album is decent.
definitely worth a grammy nominations, at least.
Rashad, you’re my new favorite… The shade, great article!!!!!
I actually was surprised f****** did not get any nominations……
Gaga come harder next time or just stay home boo
First of all, are we really suprised here? I mean come on… really?? The grammys, ama’s etc. are all about core points, the “who’s who of the year” next year it will be the same b.s. we have allowed these lack of ‘talents’ to prosper and now we have to settle for this.
Second of all, with Lecrae, I recall him saying he does NOT want to be boxed in as a Christian rapper, so meh!
Beyonce was still kinda snubbed for a few…. I’m really surprised at “Happy” though…
right she should have been in the pop vocal category
And the music video category!!! #Haunted!!!
hmmmmmmm
uggly doesn’t deserve those nominations p.s. all about the bass is so catchy lmaoooooo
Mariah’s album was solid but I’m not surprised it was snubbed. The only surprises are john legend and pharrell being shut out the top 4 but Megan and Taylor are there with those ridiculous songs. And I mean ridiculous. Michael Jackson will forever hold the king of pop title I doubt he is seething. Beyonce for AOTY!!! I need her to take that being the only woman lol
Mariah deserved a Grammy nom for her album.
Say yes is not an original song, it has been a house hold song in nigeria for years.
I will always love you was around almost 20 years before whitney won RECORD OF THE YEAR with it.
Remakes and remixes can be nominated. Especially after the fuss with Ciara’s ‘Body party’ sample was made last year, they lifted the ban on samples and remakes. Read here:
http://thatgrapejuice.net/2014/06/read-grammy-awards-announce-nomination-rules/
Most everyone be nominated?
No one is suprised lana didn’t get a nom lmaooooo
My question is how did “The New Classic” get nominated and it’s still not even platinum.
i knew mariah wasnt gonna get any the grammys never liked her. She was nominated in the big categories back in 1996 and didnt even walk out with one!! And was nominated for 8 in 06 and walked out with 3!!!!!!!!!!!!
I could be mistaken, but I believe Katy Perry’s “Roar” was in fact nominated twice for the 2014 Grammy’s, but lost to “Royals” by Lorde in both categories.
KATY PAYOLA is very unlucky with the grammys, they don’t seem to like her(MOST LIKELY BECAUSE HER MUSIC IS S***** AND JUVENILE). The b**** has been nominated more than 11 times and still has not won any…LOL
Artpop was garbage, so Gaga wasn’t really snubbed. She lost her touch. I think Ariana should’ve gotten nominations for Problem and Album of the Year nom since she had the best out of all the main pop girls. The biggest snub for me was no K. Michelle. I thought for sure they’d give her something this year after last years snub. Lana should’ve gotten nominated too.
Maybe Lady Gaga didn´t release her best body of work (although a few songs were) but it still was definitely superior to anything released by someone like Ariana grande for crying out loud!!! LOL If at least you had defended some other artists with more artistry or better material…
When utter silliness like Miley Cyrus and Nicki Minaj get GRAMMY nominations, you know that the awards are a complete joke. Who sits on that committee and why don’t they know better than to award this kind of buffoonery?
Nicki deserves a Grammy she’s been snubbed for too long now
The same reason they nominate Katy Perry every year but never give her an award: ratings. They would never give Miley an award over Ariana.
‘Ultraviolence’ is the best album of 2014. At this point i considered the Grammys an insult to music.
It´s definitely one of the best albums of the year. She may not deserve nominations for her vocals, but musically she does, if not in the main categories for whatever reason, in the other ones (indie or whatever).
I’m not even a big Breezy fan but, WHY was ‘Loyal’ not nominated in best rap/sung or best rnb song or record of the year- shoot- the melodies are so well constructed it should have got a Best Song nod! It felt bigger to me than ‘All About That Bass’ has this year… Oh but Chris hit rih… you know what, never mind.
hopefully mariah touches a new genre like jazz but shes loves r&b/hip hop too damn much!!
Even tho Bey(and others) were snubbed from the pop categories, she’s still the most nominated. Funny that she has to always be tied with a white singer. (It seems) 😀 But anyways can’t wait for Bey to break Aretha’s grammy record!!! #Queen #Icon
How many Grammys does Aretha hold? I didn’t know she had the record lol. Slay.
Aretha has 18 and Beyonce has 17. I dont think Aretha holds the record for most grammys tho
Toni Braxton and BabyFace.. Their Album Was Great.
Igloo Azalea was a huge surprise. Her album got mixed reviews and… well… it flopped. Chris Brown’s ‘Loyal’ was a snub (don’t lie to yourself, the impact of the song was there). Lana’s ‘Ultraviolence’ flopped, but it was well-received so it’s a snub. Tinashe’s album also got rave reviews so she was also snubbed. And I agree with DJ Mustard being snubbed. How many songs did you hear with the line “Mustard on the beat ho” this year…? A lot.
Look at all the thumbs downs i got, i don’t it even bother to give likes or dislikes, if that makes you feel better, ok then but don’t expect me to praise mediocre R&B albums. The quality of ‘Ultraviolence’ is superior to any album released this year or in december 2013, just in case.
You’re voted down because no one likes you. I don’t know why your out of place ass even comes here, from the looks of it no one has ever liked you. You’re like that pesky dork in school who annoys the in-crowd by constantly trying to sit at their lunch table. Go away Dingus.
Since @s****** said … Got damn it, it’s the truth!!! Forget everyone else’s opinion, who are we to like an album… Kii
You know I voted you up @s******! 🙂 It´s the truth. Most of these people only know about basic R&B and refuse to adknowledge the other fantastic genres out there, which makes them believe people like Chris Brown, Trey Songz and many more deserve grammy nominations in their categories but Lana del Rey doesn´t? LOL
If I’m going to be completely honest, the nominations are pretty disappointing. Trying to give credit when due, I must admit that Beyonce had a good year and deserves her noms. Given how weak the choices were, I hope she goes home with album of the year. And let’s not even get into how whitewashed this is. How tf did ‘All Of Me’ not get more? Or ‘Happy’? SMH….
K.
LMAOO
I honestly was expecting Beyoncé to at least be nominated in SOY + ROY w/ Drunk In Love. I mean come on, it was literally one of the biggest songs of the year! Mariah should’ve at least nominated gotten for Best R&B or Urban Contemporary album. MIAM was really good. I’m happy for Usher because Good Kisser is such a good song. The Grammys have become a popularity contest + like some of you said above, it’s basically a fancier VMA now. I really wish these award shows would stop doing that + just judge the music by its quality.
*at least gotten nominated
I hope Toni Braxton wins best RnB album.
I’m mostly surprised Jessica Derulo didn’t get a nomination when fancy, all about the bass, anaconda got nominations.
The album of the year category is a joke this year, total shambles, the worst I’ve ever seen it. If the Grammy’s want to salvage whatever credibility the claim to have, they should give that award to Sam Smith.
‘
Total disaster this is
Sis, I think Beyonce should get it tbh. Her album had the most impact this year from the noms. And it was also critically acclaimed.
Justin Timberlake also had huge impact in his year (and he didn’t have to trick the public into buying his album), and he walked out empty handed. If we were basing it on that, then Taylor Swift should win album of the year.
‘
Sam Smith deserves that award over Beyonce considering what a joke it is this year.
‘
In terms of quality, In the lonely hour >>> BEYONCE
I guess. However, Beyonce’s album did have more critical acclaim than Sam Smith, JT and Taylor Swift. If we are basing it off quality, Sam Smith received mixed reviews in its release and holds a score of ONLY 62 compared to Bey’s score of OVER 80. I’m trying to be objective here and mask my bias.
Born to Die got (Lana Del Rey) got a 62 on metacritic and yet it is one of the most incredible pieces of music to hit the 21st century.
‘
Yeezus got an 84 and yet has been dubbed as trash from the hip hop community (though I think it is incredibly and experimental, relevant to the hip hop genre)
‘
Metacritic is a good gauge but does not always get it right. Beyonce is a media darling, of course she’ll get rave reviews, especially considering the way the album was released.
‘
Sam Smith just got into the game, but his talent is undeniable. His body of work is far superior to Beyonce’s.
I have nothing postive to say about Sam Smith. Given the fact that he is a Gay R&B artist, Frank Ocean comes to mind. Everything about his sound seems forced and calculated. It looks like he went into the studio and made an album with a perfect mixture of people like Adele and Miguel and added some UK soul of artists like Amy Winehouse etc. Although the idea was great, he was caught. Critics noted this and criticized the calculated sound that lacks authenticity and is neither exciting nor risky. His album rarely gives off any sense of sincerity. This all is huge parallel to the other critically acclaimed gay R&B artist, Frank Ocean. And that is where Beyonce has an upper hand. Regardless of your criticism, this album was her most adventurous and experimental. She took a step outside her box and that is why I prefer it over the incredibly safe and cliche Sam Smith album.
That is all.
Unlike Igloo Azalea, Sam Smith’s talent is creditable and authentic. People like Mary J. Blige co-sign. The punaniHives will pull out the race card if the AOTY award goes to Sam Smith. The meltdowns will be epic.
Sam Smith had MIXED reviews when his album was released. Because of the hype surrounding “Stay With Me”, people all of a sudden changed their opinion I guess…. He holds a score of only 62 with his album. He is NO Adele, Amy Winehouse, Frank Ocean when it comes to quality. People need to stop hyping him up.
@Ozzy, You need to stop inflating those pests’ minds with your support. They only care about Trannyoncé – literally, and you’re a Navy.
I guess given how whitewashed this award is, I would like to see some diversity. Beyonce, being a black woman would be better to win given the recent attitude of the Grammys to disregard black artists. R&B singers like Sam Smith and rappers like Iggy Azalea are being held to a higher standard. And lets be honest here, race has something to do with that.
@Ozzy, I meant the BeyHives. That metzo biitch shades your innocent and supporting comment. She probably saw your avi. You’re right about the Grammys being whitewashed part.

‘
Sam Smith just got into the game, but his talent is undeniable. His body of work is far superior to Beyonce’s.
‘
Are yoy saying Taylor Swift’s “1989” (76 metascore) is far superior to Emeli Sande’s “our version of events” (67 metascore)??
This should be enough to raise eyebrows
‘
Future s**/Love songs – 70 metascore
The 20/20 experience – 75 metascore
‘
We all know FS/LS > 20/20
Playing devils advocate here, Beyonce did have several songs off her album also chosen as the best songs of 2014. That with the critical acclaim and sales/popularity, would easily put it ahead of Sam Smith.
Beyonce didn’t experiment, she just did what every other pop artist does, with emphasis on Rihanna seeing that it is her Unapologetic/Talk That Talk sound and image she adopted for Beyonce (down to songwriters and producers and features), this has been seen multiple times.
‘
I mean sure the album was the flavor of the month for a minute, but hasn’t exactly held on to people’s attention the way Sam Smith or Ed Sheeran have has it, it fell off a few weeks after and non of the singles have really popped off or had an impact.
‘
You have nothing positive to say about Sam Smith because you claim he is gay and RnB, ala Frank Ocean? Frank Ocean has not come out as Gay but as Bisexual, there is a difference. Plus who said there can only be one LGBT RnB artist.
‘
You claim he has adopted other people’s sound ala Amy Whinehouse, Adele…etc, and in the same breath go ahead a praise Beyonce for an album that has adopted other artists’ sound, with particular to Rihanna. Something Beyonce has done multiple times, especially B’Day where she didn’t adopt but stole Amerie’s sound and image.
‘
You claim Sam Smith has plaid it safe, what is so safe about being a gay RnB artist? There is absolutely nothing safe with that category. Yes Beyonce has taken a risk by twerking and stripping, but Beyonce is a media darling, of course the media won’t come as hard on her about her talking about her husband c****** on her as they would Miley Cyrus.
‘
If you listened to both The Lonely Hour and Beyonce, you get more quality from the Lonely hour. Beyonce is filled with over sexualized, wannabe hip, midlife crisis forgettable tunes, and not done in a classy way like the Janet Album (incredible album). Sam Smith is filled with emotional, haunting and captivating vocal arrangements, lyrics and production. It is far superior to Beyonce and deserves Album of the year.
Beyonce deserves a Grammy for Best Pop Vocal, I would say Best Urban Contemporary but Jhene Aiko deserves that award
She still hasn’t mentioned her fave getting a nom & is obsessing over beyonce? Didn’t she purchase beyonce and proclaim it to be ‘excellent’ and ‘like Ray of light’ last year? I’m screaming at this troll. Ban it please.
I will admit that the Grammy’s a white washed nowadays, this is why Beyonce gets so many nominations (as the token black girl).
‘
On the other hand, even with my opinions on the way I feel about some White artists like Madonna, Iggy, Miley, etc…I will still have an objective opinion on their music because I stan for music first.
‘
Even though I see absolutely no credibility in Iggy, there are some songs T.I wrote for her like Change your life and Beg for it that I listen to.
‘
Music first for me bud
You know what, I came here to simply give my 2 cents and nevermind now. *Goes back to twitter*.
Oh right, the obsessive troll who got dragged up and down the Grammy post by Rosie is back.
‘
Yes, I do think Beyonce is Beyonce’s best album, I also think it is of less quality than The Lonely Hour.
‘
Now when is Cheryl winning a Grammy? Hell when is she winning a Brit, she cannot even win that….poor that.
She did already sis….
I’m not trolling. It’s really weird how you obsess about beyonce. Stop seriously. Ozzy is 100% navy and recognizes it. It’s psycopath-ish.
Babe, I give ZERO f**** what you have to say, its ironic how you mention my alleged obsession with Beyonce when you’re obsessed with me.
‘
Instead of worrying about me, why not try to get Cheryl a Grammy, a Brit or better yet, Flopping Human an Aluminum foil certification
I’m not obsessed with you. Unlike you, I’m not the day’s top commentor every day. So that was a self drag. Stop obsessing about beyonce. You look like a stupid close minded troll who doesn’t even actually stan for rihanna. The navy doesn’t even claim you boo.
But when have I ever begged for the navy to claim me?
‘
I don’t care how I look to a psychotic, self absorbed, low self esteem, bored lessor like you. You don’t matter to me.
‘
The funny thing is seeing how obsessed you are with me, every time I make a post, you come with nonsensical garbage about my post, try to deny it. Try to deny my name has not been in your twitter mentions for the last couple of minutes.
‘
You need help babe
Lol everything you say is a self drag because all you talk about is beyonce hahahah. It doesn’t make any sense. I rarely respond to you lol. You got paid dust in the last post, but brought my name up. So you calling me psychotic is ironic and very strange.
I made a general comment about how you got dragged up and down the post, but as usual, your Google notifications informed you that I made a comment and you had to chime in right.
‘
Continue talking about me babe, my sheer presence keeps you all bothered that you have to take it to all social media.
Lol can you read? You got paid dust. No one responded to you LOL
It’s really really weird how it obsesses with beyonce and dedicates essays to her everyday. Really strange.
Beyoncé got snubbed for Pop Vocal the album was way too diverse for her to just get urban Noms , DJ mustard was snubbed & YG was snubbed his album was great & did decent number & August Alsina which really pussed me off
Really strange, I cannot find Cheryl’s Grammy or Brit anywhere, really strange.
‘
Keep obsessing over me babe.
I also find it strange that he dedicates 5 paragraph essays to beyonce, contradicting what he’s said in the past, while he can’t spare a sentence for his fave rihanna. Looks like a troll to me.
Like you literally dedicated an intro, body and conclusion to why beyonce shouldn’t be nominated, like she or anyone else of significance gives af lol.
While not mentioning rihanna, your fave, once.
I find it strange that it claims not to be obsessed with me and yet counts and reads the number of paragraphs I post a day
What kind of attempt? I’m sorry I can read and count? LOL.
Well my comment was to Ozzy, not Beyonce and yet you decided to crash the event without an invitation so you can throw your debenture shade when you’re standing on zero assets considering Cheryl’s lack of Grammy’s or Brits
What shade? Your comment was about beyonce. They always are. Talk about rihanna or something lol.
im so tired of your biitch ass go somewhere tgj doesn’t post on one octave that much so why are you here
And your comment is always about me or Rosie, talk about something else, like Only Human’s platinum certification
only flopping wont even go silver lmaoooo
How many octaves does cheryl cole have?
Mariah’s album is brilliant. She should’ve been nominated for lots of Grammys.. Also, Beyonce’s layout of her album helped her to get that nod. It was the whole hype surrounding it..
It’s not. For example, I congratulated rihanna on her nomination yesterday. But keep seething over beyonce boo lol.
Oh, come on! If “Beyonce” was all hype then wtf is Sam Smith!??
Vocal maturity, good sales, critical acclaim! Beyonce deserves that award. Yes, Sam Smith is a good vocalist but really? He’s honestly this years Adele and I’m sick of it.
I’d put Fantasia, Ledisi, Chrisette Michelle, and Jill Scott up against her ANYDAY. They are just as good if not BETTER vocalist than she is. Yet, they don’t nearly receive as much recognition.
I’m tired of the racially bias media #GoBeyonce
This was a great year for Beyonce, if you take EVERYTHING into account. If she does just so happen to snatch AOTY…the haters can’t even really be mad.
I’m sorry. Say what you want. I know Nicki has many fans that comment on this site but f*** it. There is NO WAY possible Anaconda should be nominated for anything Grammy. That song is by far her worst record ever! I’m not a fan but I’d rather see Pills and Potions or Superbass than that garbage. Hip hop is truly dead.
It’s not about being just a good vocalist.. It’s about everything for certain artists.. A lot of these r&b chicks are niche.. Adele’s album is great, not that the others aren’t !!
@Theman
“It’s about everything for certain artist”….If that’s the case, then wouldn’t that theory apply to Beyonce’s album as well? I mean, people are going on and on about how good of a vocal technician Sam Smith is. At the end of the day it isn’t just about “good vocals”. “Beyonce” was a solid body of work. It was quite commercially successful AND was RAVED by critic’s.
Idc how the album was rolled out. An A+ is still an A+.
Beyonce’s rollout garnered a lot of hype. The album is good enough.. But that played a huge factor in this whole era..
It’s not Bey’s fault that she’s the best at what she does. What should she do now?? Reject the nominations??
Excuse me? Nicki did not have to wait 5 years! She was nominated 4 times RIGHT after her first album wtf GRAPEJUICE!?
Okay regarding the “white washed” comment… There will always be White nominees than Black because there are more White artists than Black. Rap/Sung Collaboration rules changed this year, only songs where the lead artist is a rapper can be nominated. The Grammys always reflect what’s hot at the time tbh… In the 60s, it’s was all about doo wop Pop, Soul and soft rock which is what always won, the 70s were about social change, funk, disco and rock which is what always won, the 80s about hard rock, dance/pop and a new genre called hip-hop and the 90s were new jack swing, gangsta rap, adult contemporary and soundtracks and the 2000s and 2010s has actually been the most diverse selection of nominees ever… Now we’re seeing rap, R&B, country, pop, EDM, indie, rock, alternative all being no,inmates for the Big 4 when historically, mostly country, adult contemporary and Rock albums have won in those categories. Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson and Madonna were like the first true “pop stars” like Gaga, Bey, Katy, Britney, Xtina, Usher and JT to win major Grammys because they regularly disregarded popular artists in favor of indie artists. Nicki was nominated for 4 Grammys during her first official era as well including Best New Artist and Best Rap Album so let’s not. There was not one seriously strong rap album released during the eligibility period this time around except Common’s Nobody’s Smiling but it was nothing that spectacular. Wiz is a gimmick rapper, Schoolboy Q is cool but not great, Childish Gambino is good but boring and Em’s album was lazy and tired. Iggy’s album was cool but a tad bit basic so whoever wins, congrats. Drunk in Love was not snubbed for ROTY or SOTY, all it was about was riding Jay-Z in a bathtub. Shake It Off and All About That Bass both could’ve been replaced by Dark Horse, Wrecking Ball, Problem, Say Something, Am I Wrong or anything else. Where are the Album of the Year and Pop Vocal Album nods for Sia and Lana tbh… Who both are truly deserving of both awards more than any of the others
There go my 2 cents:
Trey Songz: Trigga, who the eff is your management? You need to fire those people stat! This is a mess!
Lana Del Rey / Lady Gaga: I have to put those two peas in the same pod, everybody is tired of your stunts and gimmicks, ladies.
Justin Bieber: Well Jesse McCartney is a songwriter now, Justin. I suggest you follow the same path.
Jason Derulo: Now that he has achieve fame and fortune, I totally see Jason as a future Grammy winner, either as a singer or as a songwriter.
Mariah Carey: All I want for Christmas is a happy new year for Mimi, she has been through a lot.
Jennifer Lopez: All I want for Christmas is for J-Lo to get married again, that’s one thing she does very well.
Michael Jackson: The album was made of leftovers from a longtime ago, right?
Miley Cyrus: I can’t believe people doubted her. Hannah Montana wasn’t just the wig and the clothes, Miley’s voice is a killa. A Grammy is coming, for sure.
Igloo Australia: Fancy is a good song and I love her part on ‘Problem’, so whatever, do your thang Igloo!
Ariane Grande: The voice of her generation. The new Christina Aguilera (but only if she fires Scooter Braun). A Grammy fave for years to come. We just need to wait till Big Sean makes a “woman” out of her, she will be unstoppable.
Nicki Minaj: Hopefully she gets a Grammy thanks to “Bang Bang” because let’s face it we are soon to be done here.
Jessie J: “Bang Bang” is bringing to Jessie everything she deserved since her first hit. PS: She should sing the remix of “The Boy is Mine” with Miley though not Ariana.
DJ Mustard: TGJ, stop reaching, he is only 25 or so, a lot of producers have been there for 20 years and are just getting the biggest accolades (Pharell)
Meghan Trainor: Why do people consider Igloo Australia a fraud and leave out this girl? I’m not buying her act at all. “All about that bass” is catchy though.
Sia/Sam Smith/Ed Sheran: One Grammy for each thank you!
John Legend: And another one coming!
Usher: I told you so, for each album Usher makes sure one song gets him a Grammy nod for best performance. And let’s be honest, “New Flame” got nominated thanks to his vocals and that moonwalk.
Chris Brown: You got 3 nods, Trey got none although he was the one doing everything right, like staying out of jail and keeping his act clean. It’s unfair and I’m tired of you bad mouthing females. You shouldn’t get no Grammy this time around. #Irefuse
Katy Perry: “Dark Horse” is a great song but E.T was wayyyy better so no Grammy. Again.
Michelle Williams: Well she didn’t create that song, so yeah no Grammy nod.
Pharell: Well deserved all the way.
Beyonce: The Queen. Any questions?
I don´t know. Grammys are not what they used to be but they keeps being the only half decent by a mile.
There are always great thing in the nominations and also some big wtf?s every year. For example this year Shake it Off, All about the bass, and Fancy shouldn´t have been nominated for the big categories. Like WTF? LOL On the other hand I´m really surprised they didn´t go with “All ofr Me” for Song and Record of the Year, it would have been a very safe choice for them.
I agree with @s****** that the AOTY category is so damn weak this year, damn it, I could even say beyonce is the best album in that category, and it shouldn´t be.
About Mariah Carey: it´s just unfair again and again. Sure they weren´t going to give her any big nomination (unless she slays literally everybody a la “The Emancipation” in all fronts), but damn it, give her some nominations in the R&B category from time to time. If all those people get them constantly (Trey Sonz other years for example) like Usher when he had such a basic year and weak songs, then Mariah freaking Carey should get some nominations!!!
I´m hoping Sam Smith wins in his categories cause the other options… damn it how weak! Last years nominations were better.
On the bright side they didn´t care much about Katy Perry (even if we know she would never win).
Lana would’ve easily gotten in if her dumbass label submitted her to Alternative. The Grammys give the award to the most mainstream artist anyway, so her only competition would’ve been Arcade Fire.
But other than that category and the surprisingly good Dance/Electronic nominees, this year is a complete joke. Literally none of the SOTY/ROTY nominees are worth it except Chandelier but we all know Sam Smith is sweeping.
It’s an absolute sham that Ultraviolence isn’t nominated. I understand that it’s a very divisive album, as many great albums are. But it’s head-and-shoulders above her peers. They are not even close.
The critics get it (see the year end lists).
The Grammy committee went for (very) bad mainstream pop.
I didn’t watch the Grammy’s last year and I’m not watching it this year either.
Some of these nominations are just sad–really.
If Iggy wins ANY Grammys, it will be difficult to keep claiming that the Grammys reward “quality.” The fact that an artist doesn’t have a Grammy is no longer going to be an acceptable drag if she wins. If she gets one, EVERYONE should have one.
1) I hope Bey wins AOTY. It’s deserved. If not, Beck. If not, Sam.
2) I hope Sam snatches the awards in ALL pop categories. Not because I like him (i don’t). Only because he’s the best they got. *sigh*
3) Poor Hiam. Really deserve to win. 🙁 Won’t get it though.
4) If Iggy wins the Best Rap Album category, they should close the category for good. It will no longer be useful. It will die with her. Put this in perspective: she could potentially win the same award as the masterpiece “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.” That’s what’s at stake here.
Next To Last Note: If all of the categories resembled this type of quality, the Grammys could retain their reputation.
16. BEST ALTERNATIVE MUSIC ALBUM
This Is All Yours
Alt-J
Reflektor
Arcade Fire
Melophobia
Cage The Elephant
St. Vincent
St. Vincent
Lazaretto
Jack White
Final Note: Ultraviolence is better than every pop album that was nominated. She was truly snubbed. So ridiculous.
