Billboard has a very big problem on its hands.
For, after handing Iggy Azalea‘s ‘Fancy’ the award for ‘Best Song’ at the Billboard Music Awards the company will soon learn that over 9,000 people have signed a petition demanding that they seize the award from the Australian rapper.
Bad news for all involved below…
According to a petition launched on Change. Org Billboard broke its rules by handing Iggy the award because she wasn’t eligible to be nominated for it in the first place.
Confused? Follow closely.
The petition claims that the eligibility period for Billboard nominations is between March 10th 2014 and March 10th 2015.
The problem? Iggy’s ‘Fancy’ dropped in February, meaning Billboard broke its own rules by placing the song against songs that did make the deadline.
Now, over 9,000 angry music lovers have signed the petition asking the supposed usurper to send the award back to the company so that they crown another artist the winner.
Its ok Iggy they hated Jesus too.

First and foremost, the people who signed the petition are idiots. They must be BeyHIVe members because the eligibility means that the song has to CHART in between those dates, not start between those dates. That’s how Billboard’s eligibility works since the early 1980’s. Case in point: Michael Jackson’s Thriller album (released in 1982) won Billboard’s Album of the Year in 1983 and 1984 because the album outsold all the albums during those years.

These entries are still eligible because they were still charting throughout 2014. Fancy didn’t really take off until May 2014. Nicki fans just can’t deal with a loss. Hot Chip is electronic but they’re really embraced by the indie/P4K crowd. They’re British and they’ve been around for over a decade. All of their albums are great (esp. The Warning). If you were disappointed by the new Passion Pit album like I was (I thought it REALLY sucked) I think you’ll definitely like them better since PP’s earlier works have been compared to them.
