As fans of Marvin Gaye await his Jesse L. Martin-led biopic with bated breath, they were hit with news that his famous singing partner, Tammi Terrell, is set to get her own biopic.
The late starlet – whose claim to fame includes hits ‘Ain’t Nothin’ Like the Real Thing’ and ‘You’re All I Need (To Get By)’ – died in 1970 at the ripe age of 24 after complications from a brain tumor. As her legacy lives on, ‘Vampire Diaries’ star Kat Graham is set to take a bite out of bringing her life story to screens.
The news unearths just as the actress brought forth news that she’s teamed with R&B legend Babyface and is hard at work on her debut album!
‘Tammi Terrell will be played by The Vampire Diaries star Kat Graham, who also is working her debut album with producer Babyface. Maryam Myika Day wrote the untitled project, which marks Graham’s feature debut and is being produced by Robert Teitel, Rose Ganguzza and Hilary Shor.
Shooting is set for next year.’
The news comes after a multi-year campaign by fans of actress Taraji P. Henson for her to assume the role due to her likeness to the late Motown singer.
As of time reporting, no release date for the movie nor Graham’s debut album has been set.
I can’t wait for her to get that call from Janet to play her in a bio pic
Ummm…”It Takes Two” was a duet between Marvin and Kim Weston. Unless Tammi also covered it with or without Marvin, you all might want to edit that.
I thought that pic of tammi was actually taraji p. Hensen….the resemblance is strong, why didn’t they get her?
Age difference.
Her story is very sad. I read that her and Marvin were so close that he broke down at the funeral and were talking to her to wake up. Some believe her death was the reason he started making Whats Going On.
kat is a great talent that got overshadowed by the supernova that is nina dobrev
I don’t see the resemblence to Tariji. Anyway I’m both she and Marvin are getting films. Can’t wait!
Insert- glad
I’m happy to see her getting more work.
Good for kat d
Good for her, and I hope this makes it all the way to and through production. A few years ago, the Florence Ballard project, with the lead role to be played by Faith Evans (obvious physical resemblance), fell through before production began. In terms of impact and stature at Motown, legacy, and overall audience recognition in 2015, Florence Ballard is the bigger and more compelling story, so I’m wondering how they got a green light on the Tammy Terrell biopic, especially independent of the Marvin Gaye project.
As for the Marvin Gaye Film in my opinion there is only person to portray Marvin Gaye Life story is R&B crooner S*** Smooth Maxwell
Hehe
