What I love most about this song is that this is one of those sounds that white people could never touch. Even a black singer that doesn’t sing as well as brandy could still do this style of music justice because(like most things in America) this comes directly from OUR culture back when blacks were terribly oppressed. What I love most about Brandy is her artistry and finding how to set a new trend for r&b artist to follow. I’ mean if you don’t think she’s one of the leaders of R&B and urban sounding music just look at how many people reference the “full moon” album as the “blueprint” or “vocabible”. With full moon, her and Rodney changed the R&B game completely and now I feel with this new era, she will be one of the artist to change R&B for the better. She is going to get a Grammy for this era. Brandy’s growth and development as a vocalist is amazing! I know some have noted that she belted more in her upper range in her younger days (think ‘Brandy’ and ‘NSN’ eras) because her voice deepened with age. However, her tone is like fine wine to me because it gets better with time. Not to mention, her control, precision and creativity is on another level. She may never be a major seller again but her impact and legacy as a vocalist is very much intact.

I think it’s insane how Brandys voice gets better with age. The cute girly helium tone she gave in the 90’s matured to a well controlled, velvety alto and gets sicker with every record. That’s what you would call “knowing your voice”. As for the record, I love. Although I’m more here for Brandys sublime layered tracks, I’m glad she’s doing something totally unexpected and left field.
