Fans of the Hip-Hop artist Kanye West celebrated when TIDAL, the company which holds his new album ‘The Life of Pablo‘ exclusively, claimed it had been streamed over 200 million times in the first ten days of its release.
Alas, the respected music industry publication HITS Daily Double isn’t buying…and has even gone as far as to reveal why it believes West’s numbers are more fictional than they are factual.
Their thoughts below…
They published the following report hours ago:
Just in time for its one-year anniversary—and April Fool’s—Tidal has announced that it has garnered more than 3 million global subscribers…
Tidal asserts that exclusive album The Life of Pablo by Kanye West was streamed 250m times in its first 10 days of release.
Our rough calculation is that 3m goes into 250m about 80 times. Which means that every single one of Tidal’s paid subscribers have played Pablo in its entirety eight times a day every day for 10 days.
Ouch.
It wouldn’t be the first time TIDAL or its sister company Roc Nation have been accused of releasing false information to the press.

All I know is that #B6 better not be a tidal exclusive. It’ll be the first album I DONT listen too by the queen of it is a An exclusive.
It said 3m since march of last year kanye wasnt the only thing in a whole year mfs flocked to on tidal. Stop trying put down a black come up. Crab ass mf.
What are you talking about? No one is questioning their 3m subs. People are questioning the streams that Tidal is always claiming. Kanye 250 million streams in 10 days. Rihanna 14m streams in 3hrs or 20mins.
If she did then I would completely understand the business logic behind it (given that fact that she has major shares and her husband is the owner). She would stand to make a lot more money, and I’m sure it wouldn’t be forever. I have Tidal and Apple Music, and intend to buy a physical copy too ?
YES THEY LIED! Just like they lied about Thotanna’s album being streamed 14m times in a 3hr (or 20mins like the Navy claim) time frame. Tidal play’s too much! They need to chile and stop with these lies! Beysus betta not release solely to Tidal! Ill be seething for the GAWDS!!! LMAO!
Please stfu
Kiii you’re still alive?? I thought you died?
KIIIIII *in my Nene leakes voice* YAS, THAT’S A READDDDD! ????????
Nothing but lies come from this camp kii. #LIEal
#LIEdal
There may be truth to it. I played the album dozens of times during the first week
doesnt matter what people believe as long as they can back it up with receipts then thats all that matters.
Cool! And I mean… You’re a Hœhanna Stan aren’t you? So you’d know all about inflated figures, fake sales and gimmicks.
poor you thinking that was shade.
Who needs shade when you can present FACTS! And the reality is, one of the most credible sources (Forbes) has slashed Rihanna’s net worth and scrutinised her alleged album sales. Your opinion in comparison to theirs is minuscule. SO DRIVEBY gurl!! DRIVEBY!
you mean like how beyonce has been in the game about twice as long as rihanna but only has like 100 mil more in the bank?
also unless forbes can actually show real receipts to support their claims, their opinions can join the rest of the world’s. So long as tidal can support what they claim with receipts whose to say they are lying. Even billboard acknowledge the Anti numbers
I felt like sometimes streaming number is a lie. Look at Directioners, harmonizers, Ariana’s fans tweeting to encourage people to watch their videos on Youtube. Their videos gt like half a billion views, but their album cant even sell 500k. Another example is Shakira, her sales are so terrible but she gt like a billion views for CRTFY? If you see, only Beyoncé had the sales, power, money, impact, streams, awards, literally ALMOST EVERYTHING.
B**** keep shakira out of your mouth.
What’s new? Record labels lied about album sales up until Neilson Sound Scan era. At the end of the day, press is press and Tidal stays in the press.
Oh, please. Yes, ‘SPOTIFY’ now has a bigger base than ever before and is now seen as a legitimate digital/music selling platform (2014 onward) but I specifically remember various outlets questioning its credibility in 2012 including ‘Forbes’ and ‘New York Times’. Of course, as its a company/service not built and owned by Black representatives they got away far easier and have become premier in the industry.
.
Record companies have been amplifying and inflating their artists sales since before the 1980’s and all bounds of tricks and gimmicks have been used to justify that. It’s only today we have multiple tracking sites where we are able to truly see what an artist is selling and so forth.
.
There is nothing to see here.
If Beyonce’s album is going to be a tidal exclusive I foresee some greater than normal piracy.
B6 shld pls be released simultaneously with other outlets. I don’t even want a day tidal exclusive.
Cool
