Twenty years after Baz Lurhman’s version of the classic tale hit the big screen, Shonda Rhimes‘ Shondaland is readying the release of a ‘Romeo & Juliet‘ TV series.

The Black British actress Lashana Lynch , who attended London’s prestigious Twyford High School, has been enlisted to portray Juliet following her success in the stage play ‘Educating Rita.’
The name of Shonda’s series? ‘Still Star-Crossed’, based on the book by Melissa Taub and penned by Heather Mitchell.
The story centers on Rosaline (Lynch), described as a beautiful, intelligent and headstrong Capulet and Juliet’s cousin. Following the death of her parents, Rosaline is taken in by her aunt and uncle, Juliet’s parents Lady and Lord Capulet, and forced to work as a servant. She does her best to tolerate her aunt’s cruelty, and focuses on finding a way to free herself of the humiliation. She is eventually ordered to marry Benvolio (male lead Wade Briggs), a Montague.
‘Crossed’ is yet to be ordered to series.
Looks like it will be very good. Shonda has been attaching herself to many pilots that haven’t done well though. What many people don’t realise is that she has very little input in the creative aspect of most of her shows, but her name alone brings in a lot of credibility.

SO!? She makes it a point to add diversity to all of her projects, and there is always a mixture of races. And even if she did do an all black show, why do you care? 95% of US shows have predominately white main casts and no-one bats an eyelid because its seen as the norm in white supremacist America.
Or maybe because the United States is predominantly White? What race do you think is shown predominantly in Africa? Asia?

Don’t be so mean to old Shonda, she just likes to kill everything you get attached to, she is not that bad.
She’s too agenda-based. Watching her shows is like having a “message” hammered into your head. With people like her and Lee Daniels, it’s more of a lecture than entertainment.
Lee Daniels is definitely trying to push his own agenda.
