Billboard 200: Prince To Place 5 Albums In Top 10 Next Week

Despite an impressive debut sales week from Beyonce‘s highly anticipated 6th album ‘Lemonade,’ pop icon Prince will still see a purple reign over next week’s refreshed Billboard album charts.

As reported here, his albums ‘The Very Best of Prince’ and ‘Purple Rain’ are #1 and #2 this week respectively based on sales amassed in less than 24 hours.  With continued coverage of circumstances surrounding his untimely passing taking over television and radio airwaves, nostalgic fans have run to digital and brick and mortar record stores to pay homage to the fallen singer/songwriter.

Some of their purchasing power, as we previously reported, will be reflected in the updated Billboard 200. Get the details below:

According to HitsDailyDouble, Prince’s projected sales for the week following his death are as follows:

The Very Best Of Prince 220-250k album, 360-380k SPS
Purple Rain 115-130k, 125-140k
Hits/B-Sides 50-60k, 75-85k
Ultimate 30-40k, 35-45k
1999 25-30k, 28-32k

Billboard supports the aforementioned by reporting:

His current No. 1 album, The Very Best of Prince, could sell over 200,000 copies in the week ending April 28. Its total equivalent album unit figure could be over 350,000 — thanks to the sales and streams of its well-known tracks (including the Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hits “Let’s Go Crazy” and “When Doves Cry”).

As we’ve already stressed, the Grammy winning musical genius is seeing numbers based solely on traditional sales and streaming one one outlet (Tidal).  We are scared to even imagine what the figures above would look like if Prince would have allowed his catalog to be widely available to all major streaming outlets (VEVO, Spotify, Pandora, etc.).

The charts are becoming so confusing between Beyonce and Prince landing #1. However both sold more in a week than “Anti” did in the past 3 months so I’m happy! ??

No the weak bish riri released January almost 4 months ago & is yet to sell a shameful 350k in pure sales while the singles queen’s work which was #1 for 9 weeks can’t even sell 1.4m. Sad she is now the $0 queen (free you tube, spotify, free Samsung plaque, free everything) now the ray of light album–ANTi is now teaming up with Calvin Harris to add to her timeless catalog to be remembered 30yrs from now.

Some ppl cant read i see. Prince will have 5 albums in the top 10 this tracking week ending thursday. He thus far has 2 occupying the top 2 positions based on the 24 hours of the last tracking week ending thursday the day he died. Bey will likely be #1. While maybe prince & Drake filling up the top 5. This year so far has been very interesting in terms of breaking records (some not even good records) & debut figures both low(anti) and high(lemonade). Drakes release is perfect timing indeed cuz life of pablo has failed becuz of tidal. Drake will not make the same mistake.

    Real album sales 🙂
Prince also had one of those monster albums that make history sales wise with The Purple Rain baby. You know, that type of moment only a few artists see in their careers.
