Usher wants Janet Jackson to know that he will always appreciate what she did for his career.
As a teen, the R&B performer was placed on Janet’s ‘Velvet Rope Tour’ as part of wider efforts to turn him into the megastar he is today and he has now revealed that Janet’s invitation inspired him to do the same for younger artists.

Besides nailing down two number one hits with “You Make Me Wanna” and “Nice and Slow,” Usher has now scored the opening slot for Janet Jackson’s upcoming Velvet Rope Tour.
Jackson is still considering additional opening acts to be named in the future, while Usher is currently on the road with Mary J. Blige through mid-April.

YES I WAS!!! my boyfriend at the time took me. We got to MSG before hand to have dinner …I wanted to go in early because I was so excited….and guess who was performing USHER….OMG!! I can never forget …Jean Anthony Ray was dancing in the aisles…there were 2 guys sitting behind me who came in from the Virgin Islands just for the concert ….WE HAD A GREAT TIME!!! sang every song and carried on still have my commemorative book.

My 1st concert and favorite concert ever…..I will never forget in Tampa in Sept. of 1998!
This was my very first concert. Usher killed it that night in Detroit. I thought for sure he was the next Michael.
It was the first time I saw Usher and Janet on tour. I was aware of Janet’s history and I liked some of her songs and videos, but I wasn’t real crazy about her. My opinion changed forever that night. When I tell you I became one of Janet’s biggest fans I mean it. I went to Best Buy to grab her albums and hopped on eBay for all the singles, mixes and promos not sold in stores. On my shelf right now are at least 12 different CDs not counting DVDs and VHS tapes. Since Velvet Rope, I’ve been to every tour except Rock With U (my least favorite Janet era after Number Ones). Janet reignited my interest with Unbreakable and the SOTW tour, and I think I may actually like her more now than ever before. I loooove me some Janet. I’m not much of an Usher fan anymore though. His music and dance just doesn’t mean anything to me. There was a bright light, however, with “Missing U”.
