Selena Gomez‘s highly anticipated return to stage, a career-spanning showing from Taylor Swift, and commemorative performance from Toni Braxton were undoubtedly among the draws that lured viewers into this year’s Ciara-hosted American Music Awards.
Yet, not even their combined star power (alongside stage-blazing performances from chart-toppers Shawn Mendes, Camila Cabello, Halsey, Lizzo, and more) were enough to save the 47th annual edition of the ceremony from its lowest ratings to date.

Viewership: 6.7 Million
The American Music Awards on ABC hit a new all-time low in the Nielsen ratings on Sunday night.
The show scored a 1.75 rating among adults 18-49, down 4% on last year’s 1.82. However, the AMAs did gain a fraction in total viewers, coming in with 6.7 million to 2018’s 6.5 million. For comparison, the 2017 broadcast drew a 2.4 rating and 9.2 million viewers.
The AMAs returned to Sunday night this year after being moved last time around for the first time in more than a decade.

I still don’t get why Taylor was artist of the decade and artist of the year?? Like she got this award because some industry insiders feel bad for her? She has more AMAs now than michael Jackson and Madonna that’s crazy..
I don’t stan Taylor, and I don’t like her antics, but on paper, she sold more than pretty much everyone this decade. Three albums sold 1 million in the first week…first artist to ever do that.

That was a great decade in my opinion for music .with some really great musicians and amazing releases .
Taylor swift is not the artist of the decade nor the artist if the year .she is probably the product of the decade .she is selling records for 13 years old kids and stream her music like 10000 times a day .that not makes her artist .let’s not forget we got this decade Frank ocean we got Lana del Rey and so many more .
These are artists ,Michael Jackson ,Madonna ,Whitney ,Janet ,Beyonce ,they deserve to be in top of the list not a teenager star ego make music for kids parties .
