Chart Check [Hot 100]: Demi Lovato Lands 17th Top 40 Hit with New Song ‘OK’

Published: Tuesday 22nd Sep 2020 by Rashad

As we reported here, World Suicide Prevention Day 2020 (September 10) brought with it ‘OK Not to be OK’ – the uplifting new single from Demi Lovato and Marshmello.

“It’s okay not to be okay/ It’s okay not to be okay/ When you’re down and you feel ashamed/ It’s okay not to be okay,” Lovato sings on the tune’s inspiring chorus.

Designed to build awareness for Hope For The Day (HFTD) – a non-profit movement empowering the conversation on proactive suicide prevention and mental health education – the song comes as Lovato’s latest effort to bring special attention to mental health-related matters.

The day of its release she took to Instagram to say:

“Since a young age I’ve dealt with suicidal thoughts and depression. I’ve been very vocal in raising the awareness of mental health because it is possible to see the light when you start the work on yourself. I’m living proof that you never have to give into those thoughts. I’ve had many days where I’ve struggled but please let this song be an anthem to anyone who needs it right now.”

Her heartfelt message apparently resonated with many as peruse of the refreshed Hot 100 reveals the tune made a promising premiere in the top 40.

Details inside:

Debuting at #36, ‘OK’s inaugural placement comes as Lovato’s 17th time appearing in the Hot 100’s top 40 with her last entrance in the chart region coming courtesy of Sam Smith‘s ‘I’m Ready’ (which arrived in April 2020).

This song is going to be a sleeper hit for Demi like Give Your Heart A Break was. Haters can’t block or clock talent! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

She’s a good vocalist but her career is very middle of the road
She needs to switch it up.
We are tired of these self love anthems.

She’s not a huge success neither is she a flop
    She’s just in the middle.

Compare her to her fellow Disney counterparts, selena, ariana, miley, jonas brothers. Etc who are huge.

Can we talk about the videos that resurfaced of Demi’s fiancé proclaiming he’s in love with Selena Gomez?! 😭😂🤣 And she tried to say the videos were fake. 😭🤣😂 Poor girl is getting used by someone who just wants fame and Selena Gomez. Wonder if her finsta is still active. P** 🐷
