Tyler Perry molded Madea into a name that’s known and loved by the masses. First introducing her by way of his stage-plays and then bringing her to the big screen.
Now, he’ll be exploring her story the more via the vehicle of a new origin series at Showtime.
Full story below…
‘Mabel’ is confirmed to be in the works at the network.
Created by Perry and Tim Palen, the show’s official synopsis reads:
Long before she was the force of nature known as Madea she was a smart, fierce, irresistible, dangerous, crazy 20-something black woman named Mabel Simmons. When she moved to Atlanta in 1972 she set the city – and the world – on fire.
This is super interesting, especially if it manages to take aspects of the Madea we know and love and fuses it with an approach few would see coming. For example, skewing more drama than just punchline led.
I am here for all of this!!!
Just, please don’t make it the same theme every episode, like the movies….
This could be super interesting and good. It could give an in-depth look at the character instead of the same old boring movies stories he’s been recycling. Every few years, Tyler producers one good movie that reignite interest in him, before going back to his usual cramp. It’s time for that good movie.
I’m very interested to see who is going to play young Madea
Well, better be lil nas x since she’s a thang now 💅🏿
Oooh I would love that, and seriously it’s time straight mr Tyler perry stops impersonating black women in stereotypical ways
it’s funny how (@me) thinks Tyler is straight…
Somebody need to play a Young Joe (madeas brother) too. I wonder if they always didn’t get along. Seems the only time a brother gets along with their sister is when there’s a huge age gap
Love the movies. Looking forward to this!
