After a whirlwind year of traveling for promotional appearances, recording, music videos, concerts, photo shoots, award shows, and more, ‘Tap In’ star Saweetie suggests she is on the verge tapping out.
The Rap diva – who is gearing up for the January 7 release of her new EP, ‘Icy Season,’ ahead of the unveiling of her long-awaited debut LP ‘Pretty B*tch Music’ – took to ‘People’ recently to wax honest about the effect working so hard has had on her mental and physical health.
Look inside to see how she kept it all the way real.
“I can’t believe I worked this hard,” the 28-year-old told PEOPLE as she reflected on 2021. “It’s like I live, sleep, eat and breathe music and business. My team is really small, so I have to take on responsibilities that eventually somebody else will, but because my team is small, I have to help them out.”
Later admitting her schedule gives her ‘anxiety’ because she has ‘no time for [herself] at all,’ Saweetie (born Diamonte Harper) didn’t mince words about how the daily grind impacts her mental health.
“I have no balance. Everything is just work, work, work and I don’t have an outlet,” she adds. “I don’t have a therapist. I don’t hang out with any of my friends because I work so much, so it’s just trying to thug it out into until the New Year.”
The January 7 release of her new EP, ‘Icy Season,’ probably won’t give her much time to achieve the balance she seeks next year. However, Harper says she’s aware she needs to slow down soon.
“Hopefully I’m able to evaluate, reflect on and see what I can do better next year, because I work a lot,” she relayed. “Balance needs to happen [because] I feel like I’m being run down to the ground right now and my body doesn’t feel good. I’ve had mental breakdowns and it’s just really stressful…”

🎤You wanna be like true tea but you can’t be…that’s why you madd at me🎤
These girls are burnt out already and haven’t achieved a pinch of what the girls used to back in the early 2000’s 😂😂😂 This generation is full of fake entertainers
While I’m not making fun of mental health issues, what these young girls are experiencing does seem emblematic of their generation. No, they don’t seem to have the same fortitude as those women who paved the way for them…
