Doja Cat has proven an unstoppable force in the Pop cultural landscape. And her latest project, ‘Planet Her,’ has helped the multihyphenate star elevate to otherworldly heights.
With the promotion for the album ongoing, the performer graces the cover of Rolling Stone magazine’s December issue.
Beyond posing it up in a shoot lensed by Kanya Iwanya, Doja seizes the feature to set the record straight on a number of notable topics – including her professional affiliation with Dr. Luke (who is her label head) in the wake of his highly publicized legal wrangle, racism, being undervalued as a rapper, and much more.
Her words await after the jump…
Excerpt on Dr. Luke:
“I haven’t worked with him in a very long time. A lot of those songs were . . .There’s sh*t that he’s credited for, where I’m like, ‘Hmm, I don’t know, I don’t know if you did anything on that.’
He’s gotten some credit for shit. And, you know, it’s whatever. I don’t think I need to work with him again. I don’t think I need to work with him in the future. I know that.”
Interestingly, a follow-up email about the Luke comments was published alongside the original words. It read:
“I wanted to clarify something that I had been thinking about since the interview. When asked about Luke I may have said something that someone could interpret as me saying that he had taken credit on things he didn’t deserve to. I just want to be clear that I have no firsthand knowledge of that being the case and I don’t want to participate in the rumor mill. The credits on my music are accurate, and I don’t want to imply anything else.
“[The previous remarks were born out of] sensitivities in the past about certain people attributing my general success to the work of others — in particular, men. As a young woman I think it is always important to fight for the credit that we are all due, and that was the point I was trying to make there.”
Elsewhere, the 26-year-old slammed those detracting from her skill as a rapper and claiming her to be Pop fodder. She brands it the type of debate “that children on Twitter like to have, but nobody in the real world really cares to talk about. Anyone who says that I’m not a rapper is in denial. They don’t know what they’re talking about.”
Addressing the suggestion that she’s not “Black enough,” the star also said:
“If you’re able to reach that conclusion about me so confidently, there’s no point in ever talking about it. . . . I’m also very non-confrontational, and I don’t like the vibe of trying to prove myself to somebody that I don’t need to. I don’t think I really need to respond to that without humor.”
Continuing with the candidness, Doja walked back her recent social media post about the stresses of Pop stardom and feeling fatigued. She told the publication:
“I really hesitated on posting that in the first place, because I don’t really need people feeling bad for me and shit ’cause I’m really fine. I just was, like, very f*cking tired. There was a lot of sh*t going on, and I needed to vent a little bit. But obviously Twitter is not the best place to talk about that.
Going forward, I don’t want to post things like that because I don’t want people to feel worried or anything like that. It feels dramatic. I don’t think it’s very beneficial.”
I can’t stand this bishhh and cannot WAIT for her 15 mins to be up.

Luke is credited all up and down her album. She is literally signed to Luke’s label…hey she’s talking 💩 about him in a magazine? 🤡 Biting the hand that literally feeds you? You knew you signed with that man and you knew the alleged stories. Sick. I cannot STAND this woman!!!
Did you read her retraction or did you just comment?
She said what she meant. The retraction probably came from her label saying we won’t give you anymore promo or albums unless you retract.
And your comment is all assumptions, which has no value
You took the time to scan her album credits though 👀
Doja I love u but you need dr Luke.
He is responsible for ur success
Say so
Need to know
Kiss me more
You right
These are all dr. Luke’s handiwork.
Hate dr Luke all u like but that man is a music genius
If she didn’t need him, then why is she still signed to him and working as his Pop S****?
Anyway I love this cover lol. Might have to pick one up 😏
I said PopSlave* not Pop S**** lol 😉
Love doja but literally all her singles have Dr luke credits and most of them (need to know being most obvious) have his sound and stamp on the songs clear as day.
1. Juicy
2. Rules
3. Cyber S**
4. Say so
5. Shine
6. Kiss me more
7. Need to know
8. You tight
9. Tomight (feat eve)
Literally all these songs hav a dr luke credit…if she stops working with luke she’s honestly not going to continue her success at the current rate. He did ALL her SINGLES and hes controlling in that way. He literally has a credit on 90% of her singles since Juicy.
I would just refuse to comment and take the hits lol.
She’s being very stupid. Talk about biting the hands that’s feeding you!
Sweetie, u don’t have to like ur Boss but shut ur mouth while u still work for him! He’s given u a career and huge success.
Simply tell the interviewers ‘No comments’ and Keep It Moving. Don’t mess your money up!
Doja, what is this? 😂 HUSH, and call Katy to tell her that it is indeed OK to work with Tyson On Da Track as well…whatever his name is at the moment…get those hits darling, we like those *Dominique Deveraux voice* 🤣🥂
Doja Cat is what you get when you mix Nicki Rihanna and Beyonce. She’s everything 😆😍
