After a 10-year partnership with Roc Nation management, Meek Mill made headlines this week when reports surfaced he’d severed ties with the imprint.
First signed to Roc in 2012 under a management deal, the surprising end of the professional relationship led fans to believe Meek – who has been vocal about his frustrations with his Atlantic record label home in the past – had taken similar umbrage with his management home.
However, the rapper (born Robert Williams) quickly took to Twitter to shut down that notion. Look inside to see what he said.
As seen in the tweets above, Mill confirmed his departure from Roc was more of a personal development opportunity than a sign of disgruntlement. He made it clear his relationship with JAY-Z, the leader of Roc Nation, is still intact.
“All I seen today was meek and roc part ways …I’m personally handling my own business so I can take risk and grow ..we came to that agreement together..I have a label deal with roc for my artist and I got reform super tied with them and many other investments wit jigga,” he tweeted. “And roc nation is my family don’t mix my post aimed at Atlantic mixed up with roc or MMG …they ain’t stop nothing I’m doing we made about a 100m together des mike and Hov saved my life b4 And put a lot of energy into it I’m not behind on my favors in life wit my people I’m good.”
Two of the ongoing “other investments” mentioned in the lengthy tweets are Dreamchasers, a joint venture deal with the agency for his imprint where he currently serves as president, and Reform Alliance — a non-profit organization that aims to eliminate unjust sentencing laws in the U.S.
As of time reported, reps from Roc have not issued a statement on the matter.
