Usher Reveals New Album Will NOT Be Titled ‘Confessions 2’: “I Want to Be Better Than What I Was”

Usher delivers the dapper on the cover of GQ Hype.

And beyond posing it up for the colorful shoot, the R&B icon also delivered an update on his long-awaited new album.

The superstar, whose last LP ‘Hard II Love’ was released in 2016, has been lighting up the Las Vegas strip with his ‘My Way’ residency – which he says has been reinvigorating on a seismic scale. Speaking

Billing Sin City as “a place where I can dream, where I can incubate ideas. A place where I can be creative, the stage blazer says it’s given him perspective about his next body of work.

Initially teased in 2019 as a possible sequel to his Diamond-selling ‘Confessions’ LP, now Ush says he’s driving in another direction.

Full story below…

Speaking to GQ, he said of the decision to ultimately not christen his next album ‘Confessions 2’:

“I can’t be who I was. I don’t want to be who I was. I want to be better than what I was. That might be a problem [laughs]”

Continuing, he added:

“I don’t want to make Coming to America 2, I don’t wanna do that. What was done is done. 8701? There will not be an 8702.

Elsewhere, it’s confirmed that Usher and L.A. Reid have reunited to launch a new record label on which the performer “will be the first signee.”

Reid also spilled on Ush’s present-day record process (which has included sessions with Lil Jon, Sean Garrett, and Bobby Avila):

“He’ll stay behind the mic literally for five, six hours without even a bathroom break. He’ll stand there and sing and sing and sing.”

Usher said of re-teaming with Reid:

“His system is what created that expectation for me, as a young artist. So now, damn near 25 or some odd years later, we feel inspired to go out and create more artists.”

Hunnie, you have about as much chance of a comeback as Khia and Nelly Furtado… Let it go.

    • Tino February 22, 2023

I’m pretty sure if Mary J Blige can get multiple Grammy noms off her latest flop album then Usher will do just fine. Plus i guarantee if he dropped a album tomorrow your negative assss will still take precious time out of your day to listen to it.

      • Shayla Queen™ 👑 February 22, 2023

I haven’t listened to a single Usher album since Here I Am in 2008… But hasn’t he only had maybe one since anyway!

    • Shayla is clueless February 22, 2023

He doesn’t need a comeback! He’s an R&B legend forever. Don’t you stan Monica? Where’s her diamond album heaux!!!

      • Shayla Queen™ 👑 February 22, 2023

Monica is a flop. Don’t you EVER try me with that!

      • Fancy BISH 💎 February 23, 2023

        That part ☕️

    • Tino February 22, 2023

He’s actually had three albums since Here I Stand. Two of which that was #1 albums and won him 3 Grammy’s DUMB DUMB

      • Shayla Queen™ 👑 February 23, 2023

Just goes to show no one knew about them.

Can’t wait to hear a new album. I play hard 2 love all the time.

    • Shayla Queen™ 👑 February 22, 2023

You thought I Look To You was a good album so your music “taste” is null and void…

      • Tino February 22, 2023

Meanwhile you think Monica is God’s gift. When was her last hit and hugely successful album???? Lol STFU

      • Shayla Queen™ 👑 February 22, 2023

Everyone sees me drag Monica up and down this b**** so you got the WRONG ONE TODAY!!!

      • ♠️What Would 50cent do. ♠️ February 22, 2023

. Since your so upset over The Queens death see a physicist.

      • Tino February 22, 2023

Anyway Usher is already a legend and icon with 30 years and four decades in the industry. More #1 songs and pure albums sold than any solo male R&B/Pop singer since Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder.

      • eric February 22, 2023

Hey, you gotta slow that down Tino. I don’t know what you qualify as hugely successful, but Usher’s last biggest album was 2010 and Monica’s was 2010. As far as I know, neither one of their last two albums has reached gold yet. Monica’s last solo top 10 on the Hot 100 was in 2003 and Usher 2004. That’s not a statement on the quality of their art; it’s just an observation. I still listen and buy from both artists.

      • Hazel February 23, 2023

@Eric: Ushers last top 10 was in 2012, and I Don’t Mind reached #11 in 2014. His last hot 100 placement was in 2019 w/Summer Walker. Monica is no comparison , no shade to her….

      • Tino February 23, 2023

@eric LMAO here you go again with delusional lies. Usher’s 2010 album Raymond V Raymond sold 2 million and is currently approaching 5 million in sales. Usher’s 2012 Looking for myself album sold 500, 000 and is currently approaching 2 million in sales.

Usher last top 10 hit was 2004?????
        2005 Caught up #8
2008 Love in this club #1
        2010 OMG #1
2011 DJ got us falling in love #4
        2011 Without you #4
        2012 Scream #9
        2015 I don’t mind #11 without even having a video

Stop talking out of your assss.

      • Shayla Queen™ 👑 February 23, 2023

Raymond Vs Raymond is only Platinum. Looking 4 Myself 120,000 first week and isn’t even Gold.

        The lies chile.

      • eric February 23, 2023

@Hazel and Tino. I’ll give you “Scream”, but I was talking about last solo top 10 (no features). As for album sales, that’s why I said “as far as I know,” so thank you for the correction, but Looking for Myself is still only two years from Monica’s last biggest album which is slightly behind Looking for Myself with 474,000 copies sold. Point proven. LOL

      • Tino February 24, 2023

@Shayla Queen and @eric Those aren’t updated numbers.

Raymond V Raymond initially sold 2 million worldwide and currently has 7.9 million combined sales

Looking for Myself initially sold 80, 000 worldwide and currently has 2.5 million combined sales

@eric Who TF cares if a song is solo or not???? A hit is a hit fool

LMAO maybe you fools should actually do some FACTUAL research instead of getting your dumb information from Wikipedia where anyone can type it and Its not updated lol SMDH

      • Tino February 24, 2023

*Looking for Myself initially sold 800, 000.

      • Monstar June 14, 2023

RvR is almost 5x plat and L4M 2x platinum?! Those were big albums so that’s believable. Where did you get these numbers from?

    • ♠️What Would 50cent do. ♠️ February 22, 2023

Since your So upset over The Queens death see a Psychiatrist. Or Call Dr. Phil

    • ♠️What Would 50cent do. ♠️ February 22, 2023

he’s is to young to retire

  4. True Tea February 23, 2023

Usher is a COMPLETE artist…something that is seriously lacking nowadays….

Most artists have one thing but NOT the other. Most importantly he is an ORIGINAL!

    Not a carbon copy.

  5. Keith February 23, 2023

Not crazy about the photoshoot, but certainly here for any new Usher music! As long as he stays away from EDM…
