Celebrating its 8th year, the annual event – which raises a toast to the groundbreaking artists who have had revolutionized and had a significant impact on African American music – unveiled its full list of honorees for 2023.
The tally includes award-winning stars Missy Elliott and SWV as well as ‘Love Come Down’ singer Evelyn Champagne King, Jeffery Osborne, and Gospel legends The Hawkins.
“Black music is the heartbeat of our culture, and the honorees for this year’s Black Music Honors represent the soul of American music,” founder and executive producer Don Jackson shared in a statement.
Set to be filmed live in Atlanta at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center on May 19, the Letoya Luckett and DeRay Davis-hosted ceremony will be broadcast in Black Music Month on the Stellar Network (June 3) and later on Bounce TV (June 19).
Good pick for missy, good pick wit SWV . Good no Erykah Badu cause she is not queen of neo soul over Lauryn Hill..
Erykah Badu can’t even sing soul. Like Lauren Hill Jill Scott Angie Stone. But you quick to call her the Queen of neo soul that’s disrespectful to Lauren and Jill
Lauryn Hill isn’t a neo-soul artist. She is Hip Hop/R&B. Erykah and Jill are neo soul, and Erykah IS the queen. Govern yourself accordingly.
It’s a toss up of neo soul/ hip hop for Lauryn Hill she is listed as a neo soul artist online
Erykah Badu is not the queen of neo soul because she cannot sing soul like Jill. Scott Or Angie Stone.
QUEENS HAVE STATS TO BACK UP THEIR QUEENDOM BADUIZM OUTSOLD JILL AND ANGIES ENTIRE CAREEERS LMAO
Lauren Hill not hip hop and rnb cause Mary is queen of that. Lauren is neo soul like everybody said
