30 years and nearly 30 million records sold later, ‘Music Box‘ – Mariah Carey‘s 1993-released third album – not only remains her best-selling LP to date but stands to have its stats extended thanks to an anniversary edition released Friday (September 8).
Titled ‘Music Box: 30th Anniversary Expanded Edition,’ the classic project – which most famously houses the unforgettable hits ‘Dreamlover,’ ‘Hero,’ ‘Without You,’ and ‘Anytime You Need a Friend’ – is enjoying a multi-format re-release that includes a limited collector’s cassette version as well as deluxe physical configurations (the latter of which are available for pre-order).
“Wind it up! It’s the anniversary of MUSIC BOX! A whopping whole 30 minutes since the album was first released,” Carey wrote on Twitter on August 31. “I’ll never forget creating this record, fully immersing myself in the music that would change my life and connect me with YOU, the lambily, in a way that bonded us forever.”
Ahead of the arrival of the physicals to Web stores, stream the digital incarnation below including the previously unheard track ‘Workin’ Hard’ (produced by C+C).
For those re-released albums, they need to add more stuff like a never released 30 page photo album, poster or other merch. Please take some notes from the K-pop brand.
I have mixed feelings about her quote because that’s not what she said in the past.
But anyway, let’s be honest, it’s just a way to generate more money. 1 new song is quite a let down compared to the millions of units sold all over the world. There could have been many things to go along with the release to thank her audience.
