“It’s time” takes on multiple meanings for Mariah Carey.
After signaling the 2023 holiday season had officially kicked off with her highly anticipated yuletide announcement video, Carey’s hit the promo trail running in support of the ventures she has set to kick off in the coming weeks including the ‘Merry Christmas One & All Tour.‘
Ahead of the jaunt’s launch in California on November 15, the diva’s spread good tidings about the Stateside trek on a number of high-profile outlets like ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ and ‘Good Morning America’ (GMA).
Found on the latter Monday (November 6), Mariah dished on everything from the origin of her top-selling hit ‘All I Want for Christmas is You’ to the forthcoming tour, her favorite holiday memories, and even new music.
Hop inside to see what she said about all of the above.
Chatting it up with ABC News’ Juju Chang, Carey opened up about the history of her chart-topping hit, ‘Merry Christmas’ outing, and more.
“I was working on it by myself … on this little Casio keyboard and writing down words and thinking about, ‘What do I think of at Christmas? What do I love? What do I want? What do I dream of?'” the 5x GRAMMY winner said about ‘All I Want for Christmas.’ “And that’s what started it.”
Revealing her intent was to make something “timeless” that didn’t “sound like the 90’s,” it’s evident she succeeded as the song is the second highest-certified tune by a woman in American music history.
Originally released in 1994, the classic Christmas cut is undoubtedly the most anticipated performance segment of her forthcoming tour.
“Last year we didn’t go, like, across the country,” she said. “So this year we’re doing that.”
And though the holidays haven’t arrived yet, Mariah is already eyeing what’s next.
“I’ve been working … on just writing new songs,” she teased, saying new music is “on the horizon.” “…we [have already been] in the studio working on something with a choir, working on a new song. So it’s exciting.”
While she didn’t exactly confirm when the new tunes would be delivered or if they’re part of a new album, soundtrack, or specialty project, it’s undoubted the diva’s beloved fans (affectionately called #Lambs) are hoping more for the former as it’s been nearly 5 years since she released her last studio effort, 2018’s ‘Caution.’
Bey & Taylor ended her.
Too old for Christmas, please Retire Grandma!
It’s not the first time she mentioned new music since the release of Caution. But nothing so far… She didn’t sound like something was around the corner.
She does not need to do anymore music. We don’t want it. Help new artists.
Who wants to see Granmariah doing lame tacky Christmas. I could see Ariana doing this but no this one.
lol she is only relevant during xmas time . hahaha .
