Joining the exclusive ranks of Prince, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez and Shakira, Beyonce, Bruno Mars, and the Hip-Hop collective that rocked 2022’s (Mary J. Blige, Dr. Dre, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, and 50 Cent), Rihanna‘s EPIC 2023 Super Bowl halftime show became one of the few in the event’s history to be nominated for a Primetime EMMY.
Like the majority of her predecessors, however, Rih left the event emptyhanded.
Before the 75th annual Primetime EMMYs (which aired January 15), only 2022’s Super Bowl show could boast having earned the prestigious industry award.
While Rih’s chances did seem favorable given that JAY-Z won a Creative Arts EMMY just days prior for directing the halftime show, its status as Primetime EMMY-nominated did not change Monday.
The Pop diva joined the 2023 Academy Awards, the 2023 TONY Awards, and Chris Rock‘s Netflix event as being defeated by Elton John‘s Disney+ farewell concert special for the coveted Outstanding Variety Special trophy.
Already a GRAMMY, Academy Award, and TONY winner, the EMMYs triumph – the first of the legendary singer-songwriter’s 55-year career – has made him an EGOT winner. He’s only the 19th act in history to have achieved such honor.

Why was this article so unnecessarily difficult to read? Like damn…
bet most TGJ staffs don’t even have associate degree at this point.
Im glad to see i wasn’t the only one.
They couldnt figure out a way to talk about Rihanna organically in a post that should have only been about Elton’s EGOT….
I had to stop and reread a few times in order for it to make sense
You go, Elton, gurl. Hold me closer tiny dancer. I know that’s right!
