Just moments after shocking GRAMMY viewers for sweeping the Rap category with three wins (Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance, and Best Rap Album), Killer Mike received another shock when he was whisked away by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).
At the time the LAPD had not released any information about what caused the arrest, but not long after the authorities took to Twitter to confirm Mike (born Michael Render) had been detained on misdemeanor battery charges.
Released approximately five hours later, look below to see how Render responded to the headline-grabbing incident.

While largely remaining mum about what led to his detainment, Mike did speak to a few outlets about the overall debacle.
“Man, ain’t nobody talking about all that mess. I walked on with three Grammys. I took beautiful pictures, man. I got the job done and it was a beautiful time,” he told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Monday (February 5). “I swept an entire category yesterday. That’s what I got to say about it.”
Before the AJC chat, the rapper reportedly sent the Atlanta outlet a text and placed blame on the “overzealous [sic] security” at the event. Later, he dodged questions about the altercation during a radio interview.
“We hit a speed bump and then we head back to the party, man,” Mike told the hosts of ‘Big Tigger Morning Show’ (as heard in the clip above).
Render has yet to offer a full recount of his side of events, but reports have surfaced that he allegedly knocked a female security officer over while trying to go around her at a security checkpoint after she asked for his ticket.
After she didn’t move out of his way fast enough, word has it he pushed her to the ground and reportedly caused her injury. She received medical attention at the scene.
The misdemeanor battery charge comes with a potential fine up to $2,000, six months behind bars, or both. Mike is due back at Los Angeles Superior Court on February 29.
