Over 30 years after Meryl Streep‘s cult classic comedy ‘Death Becomes Her’ scared up big numbers at movie box offices, its Broadway adaptation is undoubtedly hoping to do the same.

Starring GRAMMY-winning, Destiny’s Child alum Michelle Williams alongside TONY-nominated performers Megan Hilty, Jennifer Simard, and Christopher Sieber, the stageplay – which has ultimately been 10 years in the making – started its pre-Broadway saga in Chicago (to rave reviews) before being greenlit for a run in New York.

“My role is a light lift but at the same time I have to be powerful, I have to be present for those four scenes as they are some of the most riveting moments in the show,” Williams said of her character “Viola Van Horn.” “Viola is the total opposite of who I am in real life so it’s fun to portray her. She’s that sneaky voice in people’s ears every day when you look in the mirror. She’s a dose of reality.”

Directed and choreographed by the TONY Award-winning Christopher Gattelli, ‘Death’ will be reborn in the Big Apple via a preview performance at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on October 23 before officially opening on November 21.

Windy City fans who can’t make it to NYC will be pleased to know the Chicago staging runs through June 2.

Saw it in Chicago. Excellent and funny show. Michelle plays an interesting villian who turns deadly when rejected.
