According to new court filings, the R&B singer was rushed to Duke University Hospital from a North Carolina federal prison after allegedly receiving a dangerously high dose of his prescribed medication from prison staff. During his two-day stay, Kelly says doctors informed him the amount he was given could have been fatal.
However, that’s not all; Kelly claims the situation is far from a mistake. In the same filing, he alleges that prison staff have cut him off from his blood-thinner medication, despite medical recommendations, and are denying him surgery needed to treat blood clots in his legs and lungs.
In what he’s calling a deliberate attempt to let him die, Kelly has told his legal team he is convinced he’s being targeted and will be either killed or left to die behind bars.
Prosecutors wasted no time clapping back, accusing Kelly of manipulating the system once again. In their response, they called his claims just another tactic, writing:
“This is the behavior of an abuser and a master manipulator on display.”
Kelly is currently serving a 30-year prison sentence for his 2021 sex trafficking and racketeering convictions, but this latest medical emergency is now front and center in his ongoing fight for freedom.
