Empire Star Bryshere Gray has been charged with assault and battery.

Gray, best known for his role as Hakeem Lyon on FOX’s hit series ‘Empire,’ is once again facing legal trouble.

The 31-year-old actor has been charged with assault and battery in Chesapeake, Virginia, though local authorities say he was not arrested; a private citizen filed the charge.

According to court documents, the alleged victim is Dustin “Chosen” Wilkins, a known associate of Gray.

Wilkins claims the altercation stemmed from a heated argument during which Gray charged at him from behind a vehicle, ultimately escalating into physical violence.

He spoke with local news, sharing:

“As I was explaining to him that he can’t just leave without paying… I told him, ‘You have enough problems, I’m trying to save your life.’ That’s when he charged toward me from around the car, hit me with his shoulder, and started fighting me as I was recording it on the phone.”

“Something took place in a mental health aspect. I can’t disclose the details, but Bryshere is a friend like a brother. He’s dealing with some very real mental health issues.”

Gray has had multiple legal run-ins in recent years, including a 2020 domestic violence arrest and a parole violation in 2022. Many are hoping he gets the help and support he needs.
