As Lizzo fans (affectionately called #Lizzbians) celebrate the unexpected September 5 release of’ ‘My Face Still Hurts from Smiling‘ – the deluxe edition of the June-dropped ‘My Face Hurts from Smiling‘ mixtape – she’s taken to ‘New York‘ magazine to reveal her next musical step may not be what’s expected.

Acting as the mag’s latest cover girl, Liz (born Melissa Jefferson) stunned in the pages of ‘New York’ under the lensing of famed photographer Ruven Afanador.
When not shining in designer duds, Jefferson was waxing honest about going back to the drawing board in terms of her next studio album (the follow-up to 2022’s ‘Special‘).
“By 2025, I’ve changed, the world has changed so much, and so much has happened,” she told ‘New York’ of her ‘Love in Real Life‘ album just six months after confirming it’s done. “It just wasn’t what I was feeling right now. I was like, ‘I need to do s–t differently and I don’t know what it is, but I’m going to just start following my instincts.’”
The project’s lead singles, ‘Still Bad‘ and ‘Love in Real Life,’ both failed to crack the Hot 100 upon their respective releases earlier this year.
Said nonperformance is believed to be what inspired the Pop diva to steer away from their Rock-leaning sounds with her more Hip-Hop-driven ‘Smiling’ mixtape.
“I sat down at the table and I said, ‘I need to do s–t my way starting from now. And I need y’all to have my back. It’s going to be a little scary,’” she said. “And everybody agreed, and they said, ‘We got your back, whatever you need.’”
And while she did not outrightly confirm if the LP will be shelved or not, she referred to its arrival date as “TBD” – reiterating a sentiment she previously shared over the summer.

I mean, Girl, You’re a two/three hit wonder that came a couple of times in the last decades. You‘re insufferable and annoying as hell and somehow your music is not kicking anymore
Yawn nobody cares
Oh well… at least we got My Face Hurts from Smiling mixtape to keep us Lizzo stans happy and fuelled off her music while we wait for the next album.
All fat jokes aside , music is at a standstill right now. Almost everyone’s flopping apart from a select few. Even artists on the top of the charts are experiencing dwindling album sales. It’s been bad for many years but it’s really bad in 2025. Lizzo is crazy talented but the music isn’t where it should be. The GP has spoken. Put down the fried chicken and get in the booth. No rap music please. And I thank you✨
Lizzo lost her way. Her music took a back seat to the image she’s trying to craft. She allowed her personal struggles to eclipse her business and now many of us original fans are turned off. She’s always talking about things that don’t matter to the average listener instead of producing quality music. She needs to focus and stop treating her career and the public like her personal diary. Tgis is business!
Nobody cares fat Lizzo!
Lizzo look a damn mess with that evil, blonde hair, and her music went white girl on top of it, and she is annoying on top of all that. Wasnt nobody thinking about Lizzo’s music. Artists like her and Tyla end up ruining their own careers over their own insufferable personalities.
Just drop, flop and move on to the next. Worst comes to worst you can go indie
