During a revealing appearance on the ‘Call Her Daddy’ podcast, King admitted the rumors once openly deeply frustrated her, especially while navigating dating life after her divorce.
The veteran broadcaster shared that she even urged Winfrey to publicly deny the gossip, only for the TV host legend to insist they ignore it altogether, she recalls:
“I would say to her, ‘You’ve got to say something on your show, because it’s hard enough for me to get a date on a Saturday night and now people think I’m a lesbian, you’ve gotta say something”
Still, King made her stance crystal clear, saying:
“If we were gay, we would tell you because believe me, there’s nothing wrong with it,” King stated. “It’s just, I prefer a man. So we would tell you.”
Elsewhere, King reflected warmly on their decades-long bond, calling her place in Winfrey’s inner circle “sacred.” She also shut down any notion of jealousy, explaining:
“I never see myself in her shadow. I always say I see myself in her light,” King revealed. “And I do mean that. I never thought, ‘God, I wish I could be her.”
