During an intimate conversation at the GRAMMY Museum alongside her manager Lydia Asrat, Normani called ‘Dopamine‘ a “labor of love,” while admitting:
“If I’m being transparent, I know that you guys were frustrated. Yeah. Imagine that times ten for me, right? And I feel like there’s such heartbreak and heartache that I felt like, you know, went through just in terms of the process of having all of these things lined up and aspirations and things that we talked about and things that we were like really aiming towards that just didn’t end up happening or coming into fruition.”
Her manager echoed the sentiment, suggesting that much of what had been promised simply failed to be achieved, revealing:
“I walked into things that were already promised that we had to follow through on. And unfortunately, it was things already signed, sealed, and delivered contractually and all those different things. It’s not, we cannot go backwards on that. And it wasn’t her [Normani’s] fault, honestly, when it came to certain things that were already locked in. And we were working through that in real time.”
Still, Normani made it clear she’s focused on the future. Describing her next chapter as “healing,” “reclaiming my power,” and ” a cultural reset.”
