As reported, early forecasts had Grande eyeing a launch around the 300,000 mark.
Now, the final numbers are in and ‘Petal’ has officially opened with 295,000 equivalent album units.
The tally delivers Grande her seventh #1 album on the Billboard 200 and her biggest overall opening of the 2020s. It’s her sixth consecutive winner.
Of its total, a mighty 168,000 came from traditional album sales, just 1,000 shy of the career-best 169,000 pure copies ‘My Everything’ sold during its opening week in 2014.
Streaming accounted for a further 126,000 units, powered by 128.83 million official on-demand streams of the album’s songs.
Grande also moved a career-best 96,000 copies of ‘Petal’ on vinyl.
With seven Billboard 200 chart-toppers, the songbird now ties Janet Jackson and Lady Gaga for the fifth-most #1 albums among solo women in the chart’s history.
The feat arrives after lead single ‘Hate That I Made You Love Me’ earned Grande her milestone 10th Billboard Hot 100 #1.
And while the songbird may be gearing up for a hiatus, it’s clear that her music is taking residence in pole position.
