The 21-year-old singer’s high-profile private attorneys have officially withdrawn, with the Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office now stepping in to handle his defense.

Born David Anthony Burke, the performer appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom on August 31, where he once again pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
Attorneys Blair Berk, Marilyn Bednarski, and Regina Peter confirmed that their request to withdraw was granted after Burke was deemed eligible for appointed counsel.
In a statement to the BBC, the legal trio said they continue to support his defense.
No specific reason for the changeover has been publicly disclosed.
Deputy Public Defender Walid Kandeel has now taken over the case.
The latest development comes just weeks after a judge ‘ordered D4vd to stand trial’ in connection with the death of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez.
Prosecutors allege Burke murdered the teenager, sexually abused her, and mutilated her remains. Her body was found inside a Tesla registered to him in September 2025.
Burke has denied the charges and remains in custody without bail.
His next court appearance is scheduled for October 19. A trial date has not yet been set.
