Rock recalled his childhood friend’s brother, Roger Logan, who spent 19 years behind bars for a murder he did not commit. The star admitted that Logan’s family once asked him to help fund a lawyer, but he declined. He told NYT:
“…his brother used to plead with me to pay for a lawyer for Roger, and I never did it. I always had a no-lawyer thing.”
Rock, 61, says the decision still “f**ks with” him, revealing that he had the means to help but never knew whether his intervention would have made a difference; he shared:
“I had the means to help him, and I didn’t. I don’t know if we could’ve got him out or not, but still. So all that to say, I’m Black, Black men get accused of sh*t they didn’t do all the time, every day. We let Black men out of jail and go: ‘Whoops! That Black guy just did 30 years — too bad.’”
The interview comes as Rock is currently promoting his latest directorial effort, ‘Misty Green,’ which hits limited theatres October 9.
