‘Turning Point’ hitmaker Mario has reached just that in his 21-year career thanks to a new record deal between his imprint, New Citizen, and Epic Records.

Having spent most of the last decade distributing his music independently, the move to Epic marks an epic milestone for the 36-year-old as it’s not only his return to the Sony Music umbrella but also his first major-label deal since 2013.

Promising to use the new partnership to “bring R&B back” (as revealed in a statement announcing the venture), the first fruit of the union comes courtesy of a revamp of his 2022-released single ‘Main One‘ (which originally featured embattled emcee Tory Lanez).

“I know you wanna be the main one / I got a whole list of names on the way / I ain’t f-ckin’ with the same one / Ooh, I love when you drop it down low / But you’re still high maintenance,” he croons on the cut that now features Hip-Hop superstars Tyga and Lil Wayne.

After courting backlash for enlisting embattled Hip-Hop star Tory Lanez to assist with his last single, the summer 2022-released ‘Main One,’ R&B singer Mario is back with a new cut, ‘Like Her Too.’

Co-produced by SprngBrk and Blwyrmnd, the bedroom-ready groove sees the ‘Just A Friend’ hitmaker encourage his love interest to get comfortable with her wild side,

“The stars are aligned / What a hell of a night / I’m pullin’ her hair / I’m glad that you came / It’s okay to share / Oh, baby, you’re something else, oh / So don’t be jealous of your reflection,” he croons.

While the lyrics may lead listeners to believe the tune is an invitation for other parties to join the couple behind closed doors, Mario took to Twitter to suggest the words are symbolic.

“‘Like Her Too’ is a song inspired by duality. A woman loving every part of herself without judgment is where her freedom starts. As a man, I support her wild untamed self while protecting her innocence,” he shared in a statement.

Believed to be the latest taste of new music set to board his forthcoming album, the follow-up to 2018’s ‘Dancing Shadows,’ hop inside to hear ‘Like’ in full.

R&B crooner Mario makes a convincing return from his musical hiatus with a new reggae enthused record titled ‘Let Me Help You.’ Since releasing the buzz track ‘I Need More’ in May, the Baltimore-native has been in reclusion to prep for his upcoming studio album ‘Paradise Cove – hence both tracks breezy island vibes.

Recall the early 2000s when R&B music exuded more substance and an artist’s full vocal range took center stage on a 3-minute track. In his return, Mario looks to return the genre to its fundamental storytelling roots.

As our girl Kelly Rowland puts the finishing touches to her third studio album, a remix of Mario‘s ‘Thinkin’ of You’ featuring the Destiny’s Child alum surfaced a few moments ago.

While it may seem like somewhat of a random song for Ms. Kelly to jump on, it hardly surprises us as The Runners produced cut was penned by Rico Love (Beyonce’s ‘Sweet Dreams’ and ‘Radio’), who is overseeing Kelly’s project.

About the song itself, Ms. Kelly worked it out! As well as adding another dimension to the already cracking track, Kelly’s vocals (as evidenced by some of the adlibs and runs) show a lot of vocal maturity (we always knew she could cut it live, yet previous studio recordings had been played too safe IMO). Great remix!

Be sure to keep it locked on That Grape Juice for a special announcement about Kelly very soon!

Hit or Miss?
