Mario - I'm A Fan

A new unreleased cut from R&B crooner Mario surfaced today in the form of ‘I’m A Fan’. Said to have been recorded during the sessions for his current LP ‘D.N.A’, cut, to put it simply, is fire on a track! A mid-tempo with that ‘knock’, the song manages to encompass great production and arrangements, engaging lyrical content and, as ever with the 23 year old Baltimore native, good vocals. This should have made the album (which is pretty solid, by the way)…

Mario - 'Boom In it (ft. Brandy)'

Arguably the most consistent R&B crooner of today, yet the most underrated, Mario continues to prep his 4th studio album ‘And Then There Was Me’ for release later this year. Meanwhile, a new song from the LP’s recording sessions has surfaced in the form of ‘Boom In it’. Produced by The-Dream and featuring none other than Brandy, the delicious mid-tempo cut sees Mario turn in a great vocal over Dream’s sparse, yet hard hitting production. Word has it this isn’t the finished track (as evidenced by Brandy’s one line – literally), something which has me salivating for the mastered version.

R&B crooner Mario is currently prepping his 4th studio LP ‘And Then There Was Me’ for release later this year via J Records. Meanwhile, the set’s supposed first single ‘Break Up’ has surfaced. The gritty mid-tempo cut, which features Sean Garrett and Gucci Mane, is, to be frank, pretty awful; most especially when considering the high quality the 22 year old served up with his last LP ‘Go’. I’m wondering whether it’s a case of dumbing down his sound to sell records or whatever, but it certainly isn’t a good look. Irrespective of sales, Mario has always been held in high regard for arguably being one of R&B’s best talents – something this track definitely doesn’t show. No.

R&B crooner Mario has been hard at work on 4th studio album for a while now, and the fruit of his efforts have begun to surface – most recently in the form of ‘Afraid 2 Cry (Hardest Moment)’. The word which resoundingly comes to mind upon listening to the song is ‘refreshing’. Refreshing lyrically, refreshing in terms of vocal delivery (on-point!), refreshing when compared to a lot of the bubble-gum nonsense Mario’s contemporaries have been serving up. Simply, refreshing.
With each of his albums, it’s evident Mario’s growing artistically – something I’m feeling to be the case with his forthcoming release – judging by this taster. Roll on the album’s release.

With R&B crooner Mario hard away at work on his forth studio album, a new cut from LP’s recording sessions titled ‘Promise Land’ has surfaced. Check out the Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins produced track below:

Good stuff. I’m really hoping Mario garners the success he deserves this go round; as I’ve said many a time, his last LP ‘Go!’ was criminally underrated, as is Mario as an artist too.

Mario - 'If I Never'Fresh off a successful stint on Dancing With The Stars, R&B singer Mario is hard at work on his fourth studio album (due before the year’s end). ‘If I Never’ is said to be one of the tracks from his more recent recording sessions. The smooth R&B cut isn’t far removed from some of the solid slower offerings on his criminally underrated ‘Go!’ LP. Good stuff.

Despite having released his third album ‘Go!’ this past December, Mario is already prepping the follow-up, with a ‘Sometime in 2008’ released date pencilled in. This new track ‘Me & My Girl’ is said to be the first taste of what the 21 year old singer will be serving up on his new project. Though I’ve heard better from Mario (See: ‘Music For Love’…my song), this is solid R&B – which is what he does best.

Check out this new track from R&B singer Mario. ‘City’, which features Akon, was recorded for Mario’s forthcoming album ‘Go!’, however ended up being left off the final track listing. Though I like the overall vibe of the song, I can see why it didn’t make the final cut; the album’s material is simply alot stronger than this. Still worth a listen, though. {Our interview with Mario will be up on Monday next week}

With Mario set to drop his third studio LP ‘Go!’ on November 27th, an exclusive new track titled ‘If’ has surfaced. Upon first listen, some of you will recognize the lyrics from Beyonce’s rendition of the song (from the ‘B’Day Deluxe), as well as the beat – which samples Trey Songz current single ‘Can’t Help But Wait’. Though the track will not be featured on the album, it’s still definitely worth a listen. Be on the lookout for a potential Mario feature in the coming weeks.

While R&B singer Mario is prepping the release of his third studio LP ‘Go!’ (due November 27th), yet another track from the serially delayed set has surfaced. ‘Skippin’, like much of the album’s material, sounds great. From Mario’s vocal delivery (he’s got that falsetto on lock) to Mad Scientist’s production, I’m really liking the track. I’m hoping for something to spark the project, as there doesn’t seem to be much (any) hype surrounding it; it would be a shame if the project was to tank, as it seems the album may be his best work yet.

With Mario’s continually pushed back ‘Go!’ album set for an October 9th release, yet another track from the CD has surfaced. ‘Ghetto Love’ is a laid back mid-tempo – which showcases Mario’s musical maturity. The album definitely has better tracks than this, yet that doesn’t take away from the song. I’m hoping Mario is successful with this project, as – judging by his latest material – he’s really stepped his game up.Hit or Miss?

Yet another new Mario track from his upcoming ‘Go!’ album has surfaced – this time in the form of ‘No Definition’. Produced by Timbaland and written by The Clutch, the track is a well-composed and lyrically engaging affair. Mario has really stepped his game up with this project – most of tracks sound great. J Records need to hurry up and release the album already.
