Watch: H.E.R. Performs at 2021 #OSCARS / Makes History with Best Original Song Win

Published: Sunday 25th Apr 2021 by Rashad

Thanks to ‘Fight For You,’ the fight for Oscar gold has ended with H.E.R. being declared a historic winner.

All ahead of her recently announced debut album, ‘Back of My Mind,’ H.E.R.’s name has already been printed on the front of 4 GRAMMYs and now an Academy Award.

The 23-year-old entered the 93rd annual Oscars Sunday (April 25) nominated in the Best Original Song category for ‘Fight For You’ – the lead song from the soundtrack of ‘Judas and the Black Messiah.’

Despite facing stiff competition from the likes of ‘Husavik’ (‘Eurovision Song Contest’), ‘Io Si’ (‘The Life Ahead’), ‘Speak Now’ (‘One Night in Miami’), and ‘Hear My Voice’ (‘Trial of Chicago 7’), H.E.R. emerged triumphant.

The win not only marks her first Academy Award, but also the first time a Black woman nabbed the trophy since Irene Cara grabbed the gold for her 1983 hit, ‘Flashdance…What a Feeling.’  At 23, H.E.R. is the youngest woman of color to ever own a Best Original Song honor.

See her performance at the ceremony below.

All the R&B girls are stomping on Camickys neck.

Remember her pyscho fans were bashing black girls at every turn

Camicky wishes she was invited as a seat filler to the Oscars. Lmaoooooo

I love H.E.R. but i feel she didn’t deserve the Academy Award.

“Hear My Voice” by Celeste and “Io Sì (Seen)” by Laura Pausini and Diane Warren were far better songs.

But as i said I love H.E.R., so congrats girl <3

You can’t say she doesn’t deserve it. She’s been grinding

Amazing!! Congrats to H.E.R !! Although I’m shocked that Diane Warren didn’t win with Laura. I’m happy for H.E.R. though!! She’s been dominating the Awards this year Wow!! Dang not everyone can get an Oscar whoot whoot!!

4 Grammys, an Oscar and NO hits? Someone’s pimping her out. Her album better do big numbers because it’s not adding up for me.

    • Keith April 26, 2021

The album won’t do big numbers, but it won’t mean a thing. HER is talented (you can unplug the instruments), she is attractive and young (easy to mass market), and seems to be a good study on how to properly play the industry game (until she doesn’t need/want to, again she IS talented). Her performance game seems to be stepping up with each appearance and it’s varied (look at Super Bowl pre-game vs. this Oscar’s performance – both styles handled WELL). What exec WOULDN’T invest at this point? There are few in her generation that are better in this moment…

She’s literally been grinding since she was 13 and just getting shine. Let her live, y’all. She is the epitome of the when hard work pays off.

    • Keith April 26, 2021

Exactly. There is enough room for all. OR perhaps these other ladies mentioned in these comments by HER’s detractors should step up their game/get new people. LOL…
